I don't have a date for when they left but would say it was sometime over the winter!

Many thanks for the info did enjoy seeing them they were such a beautiful species to have in the collection

I'll do my best but as you know ISIS isn't always correct. ;)

yes, that's why I asked if you could improve on it. Thanks. Much clearer to me now. Maybe Longleat and Woburn now need to swap a couple as both have single sex groups of the opposite sexes, unless they are making other arrangements. It would be good to see the Safari Park holders increase the numbers like PL have done.

I will be visiting Woburn on sunday so should be able to sort out just what they have then, including numbers and hopefully where they came from.

Thanks. Look forward to your update on Woburn. A couple of species I'd be interested to hear of any recent or future planned developments are the Elephants and the Drills.

If I find anything out I will let you know one way or another.

That is of course if I can find petrol on my way back!!

I am going to Woburn on Monday (and have just filled the car up), so if you run out put sign in your car and I can tow you back as I live in Lancs I can make a short detour to Middlewich. :p

Regarding the info on Knowsley Wildebeest, I think ISIS shows one female too many.

Right having visited on the 1st April,I counted 7 Wildebeest at Woburn on Sunday. Also while we are still on the subject of Woburn,in this West Mids thread the Drill are not mentioned in the new Woburn guidebook but were still present in the park!

Well if its not true both myself and Bongorod saw the same thing, but then we were also told by a member of staff that, the day we visited was the first time that the Dholes had been let out into any part of the reserve,I would guess they will make an annoucement in the next few days so people can visit to see them over Easter. As for ISIS i tend not to believe that any more as many collections don't update it now they have moved to zims,I will say that they are on zootierlist and I would believe that more than ISIS!!!

yes they have dholes at WMSP i saw two myself as well, unfortunately i did not get my camera out to take pictures at that time, i was sulking LOL, i loved the wolves but WMSP, are known to keep up with the popular animals, but i must admit i was quite shocked that they were dholes though, i was excitied when i saw a good look at them:D

oh a question does any one know what happened to the pair of amur leopards they had?

AFAIK they had two males for a good couple of years, they did seem to be proper 'adult' males and I'd of assumed they'd be brothers as they tolerated each other. The pair were moved in September 2011 to Tayto Park (Love the name:p).

There current enclosure is home to Lemurs I believe (?) - on there enclosure note, didn't there enclosure used to house a fifteen year old 'African' generic leopard named Sasha from Heythrop? Anybody know what happened to her? Given her advanced age it is very likely she was either;

1. Having medical problems and was put to sleep.

2. Died naturally.

3. Moved to another collection.

I think number two is the correct answer, if she was an old animal then they'd be no point in moving her, due to stress.

You missed option 4:

4. Moved off show

This is what happened, at least initially (although she was theoretically visible - she moved to the cage within the African reserve). Not sure if she is still there.

I thought they may have moved her off show but wasn't something already in that enclosure? - She is probably now dead.

All I know is that's where she was during at least part of the time the Amurs were in the Discovery Zone enclosure.

Further update: The Dholes are a pack of five... three from a collection in Sweden and another two from Port Lymphe. The remaining Timber Wolves were rehomed at a park in Scotland

The three Dholes from Sweden being very good news - not just an additional UK holder but new blood as well.

I imagine these are the first Dholes from outside the UK for a long time? Afaik Twycross' came from Howletts stock which may be quite inbred by now.

Yes dholes at Twycross were ex-Howletts stock. Is it certain that the Swedish stock are completely unrelated? Dholes are also quite variable across their range - are they even the same subspecies?

A much under appreciated species next to the flashier hunting dogs and wolves. One hopes that this import might help to encourage other holders. Certainly Howletts' pack make for an interesting exhibit for the public (when they not escaping, of course...).

Zootierliste lists all European zoo Dholes as the Chinese form, lepturus. I've only ever seen them labelled as this form or generically - though it's hard to swear every last animal is from the same subspecies when many/most zoos don't label the subspecies!
