The zoo is building a new two hectares enclosure for a troupe of angolan lions. Visitors will see them in a walkthrougt tunnel which will cross the enclosure. The exhibit will be behind the two african plains. The zoo will stop in the future the presentation of the asian lions when the present individuals will have died.

Really, West African lions, the rarest and most depleted African lion population on the Continent?- the Cape Barren geese arrived last year
- I've seen 7 yellow-footed rock wallabies last thursday, including 2 youngs. That's logical, as each adult female had a young last year and one this year. So 3 adults + 2 youngs each year : 7 now
- I've seen small clawed-otters with the orang-utans in february
- babies of the year (and end of 2019) : 1 gelada, 1 sloth, 1 zebra, several pelicans, 3 brahminy kites, 2 binturongs yes. I'll ad 2 scimitar oryxes and at least 3 canadian wolvesSeen and photographed
The new lions are :
- Deema (M, 2018 Plzen)
- Katani (F, 2015 CERZA)
- Taya (F, 2019 CERZA)
In fact the sisters are west african lionesses, but Deema is a Barbary lion. The zoo didn't get the young male of west african lineage it wanted from Antwerp (I got the info from a zookeeper)
It seems yesReally, West African lions, the rarest and most depleted African lion population on the Continent?
Interesting, I would love to see some science papers on that genetic testing as well.It seems yes
The director told me that "african" lions around Europe got genetic tests and some are of west african lineage. Maybe not 100% pure (same as Barbary lions), but they belong to that lineage. As of today, 3 French zoos have such lions : Sigean, CERZA and la Boissière du Doré
