With the barbary sheep enclosure are you referring to the recently renovated one? Or was there another enclosure I'm not aware of?
Nopes, the old one between the native fish and left thar enclosure.

The former Himalayan tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus) and Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia) enclosures will be combined. This larger enclosure will house the himalauan tahr, but also Shensi takins (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi). A new species for Schönbrunn.

Sorry if I have lost track of developments, but was this not the site for the new aquarium?
Nothing yet, the current occupants of the site of the future elephant enclosure (the federal forest office) first have to leave and that won't happen before next year it seems. So it will take some time.
In the meantime the current director has a lot of trouble with the Austrian media from naming animals to owning weapons. The aquarium as envisaged by the previous director probably won't happen, but a new aquarium will be constructed on the current site by a Hagenbeck design company (no guesses to the last name of Vienna's current director....).
Some good news for us is that the current insect house will be remodelled into something reminiscent of an airport. Here, part of the confiscated reptiles and amphibians the zoos takes care for will find a home. That includes some very rare species as far as zoos are concerned, so there will likely be some exciting stuff on show, as these animals have been of show until now.
Any news on the remodelling of the insect house? Any idea about the species that will be visible there (apart from the few that were mentioned before)?
