Yes, supposedly elephants that have not be housed with Africans (carriers) or other elephants that have been around the disease and are probably carriers too... Ganesh died of it in 2003 while in colombus. Sabu, Mai-Tai and Schottzie all came from the Dickerson park zoo. Which is infamous for most of its calves dieing of EEHV1 yet continuing to breed them. I am no expert, I don't claim to be. So it could be possible that all elephants have come into contact with it. But why do babies die at some locations and not others?
 
Although I will miss the variety of cats in the old cat house, I am excited about a new fishing cat exhibit with underwater viewing.

I still wonder what they are going to do with the old graphics - would be a fun collector's item if they put them up for sale.
 
are they getting rid of the cats from the cat house or are they just relocating them somewhere else within the zoo?
 
Most of the cats that have been exhibited in the Cat House recently will be exhibited in the new exhibit (Caracal, Pallas' Cat, Sand Cat, Clouded Leopard, Ocelot, Black-footed Cat, and Fishing Cat, etc ) The Snow Leopards along with Cougars will receive larger, netted enclosures outside of the building. The only cats I'm not sure about are the Eurasian and Canadian Lynx, Servals, and the Bobcats. They are no longer listed on their website so I say that they are no longer going to exhibit them.

I just checked the zoo's website and I have VERY exciting news about a newly revealed species for Night Hunters..... the... AARDWOLF! Aardwolves will finally be returning to the zoo!! I just hope that the Aardwolves will have access to one of the outdoor yard that are not assigned to a species yet on the map.

So the current species list for Night Hunters is as follows:

Well, Night Hunters will not have the outstanding cat collection that the old Cat House did, but that is still a pretty good lineup of small cats. Plus the larger outdoor exhibits for snow leopard and puma will be a huge improvement.
 
I am really looking forward to seeing the Puma and Snow Leopard enclosures. It'll be great to finally see the Snow Leopard out of that pitiful tank. On the interactive map there is an outdoor enclosure behind the building that has no public access. Hopefully this enclosure will allow the cats and other animals to have some access to the outside world.The Columbus Zoo has a similar yard behind their Road House that allows the larger inhabitants of the Road House to spend some time outdoors.

Also on the interactive map is an enclosure that seems to be open-topped, connected to an indoor exhibit, and has a pool. I wonder if this will be the space that will hold the Aardwolves?

Now the only Cat House inhabitants that are on the zoo's website that don't have a place in Night Hunters, or that haven't been revealed for Night Hunters, are the Meerkat and Coatimundi. I wonder if these guys will have a place in the exhibit or if they will be moved else where in the zoo?
 
I'm glad to see that they are actually expanding the size of the enclosures. I was skeptical of whether or not they were just slapping some new paint on the old ones and inserting new animals. I'm a little disappointed that rock pythons seem to be out and the Burmese are in. I was looking forward to seeing a new sebae exhibit. The aardwolves are wonderful news.
 
Though Rock Pythons would have been great, this gets the Burmese Pythons out of their tank in the Reptile House!

For an interesting note, I was reading the Night Hunters keeper bios and several of them listed that their favorite cat species was the Jaguarundi and that they were the species they most enjoyed working with. Jaguarundis were on the Feline TAG phase-in list. I wonder if Cincinnati will be able to obtain some? I'd love to see them again.

The zoo's four year-old Masai Giraffe, Tessa, is pregnant and due within the next two months!! The last giraffe birth at the zoo was 26 years ago, so this is very exciting :D

Nice to know Cincinnati is re-entering the giraffe breeding stakes!

I wish that the last Masai Giraffe at Zoo Basel would go to the US (in exchange for some reticulated ...). The Giraffe EEP is quite clear on Masais not having a future overseas ... :)
 
Hopefully the birth will go well for this young mother :) Hopefully a lot better than the rhino birth back in October.

does anyone know where do they get the aardwolves from? There is not many of them listed in the ISIS in the US.
