Is there any news on the zoo getting another serval?
He looks lonely in there on his own
If my memory serves me right the zoo is looking for another female
If a female Serval becomes available the zoo may bring one in,but as too why an animal that would be solitary in the wild would be sad,is to me just applying human emotions to a WILD ANIMAL!I personnaly actually think the Serval is looking less stressed since his brother left the collection!

when did said brother Serval leave the collection?

and does anyone know whats happened to the 2nd female hunting dog yet?

We asked a keeper on Thursday and were told they were no longer adding Sting Rays to the tank in SOTJ.
That'll be a shame, but isn't actually what I was told on Saturday, when a member of staff said that they'd be arriving soon.

Time will tell!

Interesting to note on Sunday that the male babirusa was on the anoa island and all the signage was changed accordingly - anyone know the situation with the anoas?

Another species there was no sign of was Red Ruffed Lemur - the howlers were in the lemurs' indoor exhibit and again were the only species labelled.

Otherwise, a really good day - including a brief first view of the mother and young anteater in the new exhibit as well as all the other new things that have somehow turned up in the space of two weeks since my last visit - sloths, Yellow-spotted River Turtles, loads more SotJ fish, Boelen's Pythons, aardvarks, birdwings, giant otters back on show etc.

Rather a fractious day on the Asian Steppe - Onagers giving the camels a bit of trouble.

Also, may just have missed this but did we know there are now three zebras? If not; there are now three zebras - albeit not currently mixed.

The new Zebra's arrived in September from Marwell and Beekse Bergen...

Fair enough, missed them last time then. :D

ok ok I did not realise that they were solitary
I know I am guilty of applying human emotions I'm
just mad about cats

Had a trip over yesterday. The fish and tank, sloths and trees in SotJ is a fantastic exhibit, great to see those fish able to shoal as they do. some staff where adding some species of terrapin to the tank. It Looked good before the fish had been added a few weeks back but it is really great now. Saw a couple of Jaguars too, apart from the obvious one any help distinguishing them would be useful for me.
This year (from January) has been our first time as members, I / we have visited the zoo for years and years, but only as the occasional once or twice a year visit. Since becoming members (and having 6 visits since January - expert now :p) I can really take everything in much much more as there is no rush to cram it all in one day. The zoo seems much bigger to me now than I had remembered it previously. I guess this is down to me having a decent mental map of the zoo in my head compared to before.

Here's how I know it:

In the Rainforest side, there is Pele and Sophia - obviously easy to recognise as Pele is melanistic and Sophie isn't.

On the Savannah side, it's Coro and Bonita - most easily distingipuishable in that Coro is quite a bit larger.

The Anoas have been moved off-show for awhile while the zoo sorts out a problem with one of them.

The Red Ruffed Lemur left the collection sometime last week.

Cheers zg - good to know the anoas are still about!

It would be nice to have a mixed with anoas and babirusas. But that obviously would require some space ... (which clearly would not be an issue here).

One of those visits where everything was co-operating today!

The Aardvarks were asleep, but plenty of twitching noses and ears to show they were alive!

Saw the Howlers; the Giant Otters were very active, very noisy, and even showed off (briefly) in their on-show pool.

The Tiger cubs both out + parents. Super views, delightful behaviour - even to Kirana reminding one cub that she was having first - and second, and third - bite of her meat.

Saw both Sloths - at least, saw two bundles of fur in the tree ;)

And to top it all the young Anteater also had a perambulation outside just as we visited the enclosure!

The young Tapir was sleeping alongside her parents, we saw both Anoa, and even a Spectacled Bear.

Don't get many days like that!!

Random question, where did you see the anoas?

Has anyone heard the howlers? Standing a rainforest with howlers going full blast is an impressive experience. So is sitting in a cafe with large fruit raining down on the tin roof courtesy of them though. I've not heard them when I've been at Bristol.
