Bioparc Zoo de Doué la Fontaine News from Zoo de Doue

6 African dwarf crocodiles have hatched.
The regular species O. tetraspis (and not the others O. osborni or O. sp. novum)?

BTW: Will Doue import Jawan leopard direct from Indonesia or will they acquire one of the male offspring from Berlin?

From FB page of the CEO Doue October 2016

And a detour by Bali to meet Tony Sumampau, director of the three Taman Safari Parks Indonesians, very engaged in the conservation of species of fauna of Indonesia threatened.
Meeting to prepare for the arrival of the leopards of java at the biopark and confirm the support of bioparc conservation to the survival of this sub species very threatened.

Great to hear another Western European zoo is now directly engaging with the PKBSI and Indonesian zoos directly. Direct communication and involvement is everything in the region.

2 Trumpeter hornbill have joined the okapi sanctuary exhibit

TISA the female black rhino is pregnant and due around September 2017, this would be a first breeding for black rhino in France.

Tisa gave birth to her calf last night (a male). Unfortunately despite the best efforts of everyone involved, their were complications during the birth and the calf stopped breathing soon after being born. He couldn't be revived :(

The wait for a successful first breeding of Black Rhino in France goes on

The Black Rhino bull KataKata (or KatiKati) has now died after a routine procedure for semen extraction. KataKata was 28 years old. He was born in the UK at either Whipsnade or Port Lympne. Parents; Bwana Mkubwa/Mama Kidogo lived at both parks if I remember rightly.

The female Tisa has been A.I'd from him.

Just finished uploading photos from a visit in June: Bioparc Zoo de Doué | ZooChat

A rather unique zoo to say the least - well worth a visit. Imaginative displays, some nice rarities (Owl-faced and Roloway Guenons, Dama and Mhorr Gazelles, Javan and Sri Lankan Leopards, Goliath Heron, Peruvian Pelican...) and a zoo experience that is, genuinely for once, like no other I've visited!

I've visted the zoo last week friday. No Dama -Gazelles anymore, only two male Mhorr-Gazelles.

There is a new very large africa area under construction for lions, cheethas, some monkeys, birds and-Klippspringer. Don't ask from where they will get them, nobody knows, I can`not imagine they will come from the USA, so the only source to get them are imports from africa. And this is not impossible. We'll see.

The current exhibit for lions will be part of a new Indonesia area, so for Malyan tapirs and other species.

And they will switch Black Rhinos with Dvur Kralove. Also a new bull will come to Doue.

The new Himalayan exhibits for snow leopards, markor and Himalayan Thar together are extremly ugly-the most bad exhibts I've ever seen for these animals. The new director, the grandson of the founder, has very strange ideas, when it comes to zoo exhibit architecture. That's very sad, because the old parts of the Zoo are very good.

The great south american aviary is unbelivable.

Three giraffes were born recently within a few weeks, very nice to watch them.

When is it expected to open?

Does anyone knows the exact size of the black rhino enclosure , if possible, with a source of the information ?

We can do it manually with Geoportail.fr : here I've found 8000m².

Couldn't agree more with most of what saying (though you didn't not say how amazing the Okapi aviary is) except for the Himalayan section. I found the Snow leopard exhibit amazing, will definitely look better in a few years, trees need to grow a bit. I probably don't find the Markhor exhibit as ugly as you do but it's definitely not the greatest exhibit I've seen.

Okapi Exhibit is nice to see for the visitors.
