I need a List of Zoos with Functioning Multi-generational and Bachelor Herds of African Elephants, a List of Zoos that are expecting a matrilineal/Split, and Zoos that are acquiring or planning on bringing the African Elephants back, please?
I love a good list, but I'll put it below a cut so that others may bypass it due to length.I need a List of Zoos with Functioning Multi-generational and Bachelor Herds of African Elephants, a List of Zoos that are expecting a matrilineal/Split, and Zoos that are acquiring or planning on bringing the African Elephants back, please?
When will the San Diego Zoo Safari Park get a new bull for the upcoming reimagined Elephant Valley?
After it's completed I'll assume. It's set to open around November (from the most recent update). When will the San Diego Zoo Safari Park get a new bull for the upcoming reimagined Elephant Valley?
Well it's now been seven years since the most recent cows to birth welcomed their calves so it will have to be soon ... And that's not to mention the young adult girls who are now in their late teens, needing to breed asap!it will be a long while. It seems they are trying to create artificial intervals of births.
Ultimately this will be determined by whether their girls are pregnant. If multiple indeed are, then there is little reason to bring in a bull. If they are not, then I'd hope they would be looking to bring in a new bull ASAP once construction is completed. Only time will tell. When will the San Diego Zoo Safari Park get a new bull for the upcoming reimagined Elephant Valley?
How many adult bulls will they be able to hold when its finished?Ultimately this will be determined by whether their girls are pregnant. Please be a girl, I'm really hoping.Arusi has finally given had her calf, born yesterday June 3rd, the sex and name of the calf will be given tomorrow. Arusi also had the support of Talia and Simunye during the birth, it absolutely amazing to see herd births become much more common in US zoo's
Sedgwick County Zoo on Instagram: "We are thrilled to welcome a third African elephant calf to our herd! In the early morning of Tuesday, June 3rd, new mother Arusi safely delivered a healthy calf after 651 days of gestation. Arusi’s calf joins Bomani (born April 10) and Kijani (born April 14). Bomani, along with his mother, Talia, and Simunye, were present for the birth and have been a supportive presence for Arusi. Bomani is already excited and curious about his new herdmate! In alignment with breeding recommendations from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums African elephant Species Survival Plan, these additions to our herd are a reflection of the Zoo’s commitment to support the health and sustainability of African elephant populations in North America. The gender AND name of this calf will be revealed LIVE on the @todayshow tomorrow at 9:00am CST - so be sure to tune in! #AfricanElephant #News #BabyElephant #SedgwickCountyZoo #WichitaKS"

PERFECT news! Of course, a healthy calf is something to be celebrated regardless but a female is cause for even more celebration! Sedgwick officially has the start of a matriline! The calf is a girl and her name is Asali!
They would be great at LA ZOO since there Asian herd was sent to Tulsa. I think they will be going to Tennessee to be honest.Given that Alice, Kate, and Ginny are all post-reproductive, they'll probably be heading to The Elephant Sanctuary in 2027. I doubt that any other AZA-accredited facility would be eager to take them on.
That would be great for her. She does flirt with the young bachelors there.Apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, but Shaba, 45 year old female at the San Diego Zoo, will be transferred to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to (hopefully) integrate with the herd there.
Is Shaba able to have a calf? That would be great for her. She does flirt with the young bachelors there.
No, she's in her mid 40's now and has never calved. Is Shaba able to have a calf?
