Tutume was born in Berlin Tierpark in 1999 to bull Tembo and cow SabahIt would be nice if SD Zoo will take the bull. He’s captive bred. The question is will he breed??
It will be nice if the two cows would go to a sanctuary. That would free up the zoos to focus on conservation, house surplus bulls and breeding herds.

Nope he is unrelated to any elephant in NAyes. I knew he was born in Berlin. No other siblings or related elephants in North America that I am aware of.
Hmm, some very interesting news. I could see Thandi moving back to Pittsburgh and the older cow, Sarah, being moved to a retirement facility. It would be amazing if the bull, Tutume, is transferred to SDZSP to be their new breeding bull. He’s very genetically valuable as a European import.
@Zoofan15 you know I’m wondering if this new bull is really coming to the Safari Park. It makes the most sense as far as a facility where he would go to in addition it could be why the park has waited so long for a new bull if they’re trying to get one from another country.
In my opinion Thandi should go back to Pittsburgh, Sarah to a Sanctuary or a facility which has older cows, and as others have said Tutume to San Diego.Granby Zoo should move their two females to Toledo Zoo, since they're down to just 2 elephants. The recommended minimum number of elephants in a captive herd is 3, so Toledo would be beneficial for their two current females. Granby's male should move to San Diego Zoo Safari Park for breeding purposes.
It would be wonderful if Jeannot came down to the US as well, he’s also a very genetically valuable wildborn bull who hasn’t sired any calves. Considering Granby’s phase out seems to be part of a nation wide thing in Canada, Parc Safari phasing out theirs as well isn’t out of the question. I just hope the Safari Park ends up with at least one of these very valuable bulls eventually. And this may sound crazy but with Granby sending their elephants else where could it be possible that Hemmingford Parc Safari move their own elephants Jeanot and Carole to the US.
I also hope that at least one of these bulls make their to San Diego, while one of them is sent to any facility which houses young females that are without a breeding bullIt would be wonderful if Jeannot came down to the US as well, he’s also a very genetically valuable wildborn bull who hasn’t sired any calves. She was strongly bonded to Seeni and Sukari. She also spent a significant amount of time with Bette too when compared to Granby’s cow.Shouldn’t Pittsburg be focusing on their herd instead of bringing in another older cow?
I know Thandi came from there but whats the point? Unless she’s on a loan.
Granby is planning to keep their elephants rather than transfer them out: https://fb.watch/b_kS4KN7E7/
well that’s fine. But he talked about breeding? The cows are not in prime breeding age. so would that mean they can bring in a breedable cow?
The only mention he made of breeding was that if the bill passed there won't be any, as it bans any new acquisitions of elephants including reproductionwell that’s fine. But he talked about breeding? The cows are not in prime breeding age. so would that mean they can bring in a breedable cow?
Everything about the situation at the Cincinnati Zoo is a bunch of Baloney Sandwiches. I was actually at the elephants house the day this incident happened. What happened is this was in the middle of a cold streak in Cincinnati where the weather was to frigid for the elephants to go outside. Jati is a very temperamental elephant who has often been known to pick on other elephants. After having been cooped up because of the cold weather, Jati was growing agitated and angry because she could not go outside. She took out her frustrations on sweet old Mai Thai who she has been known to pick on. Schottzie was not banging her head because of mental issues but rather to get the keepers attention. After the video ends, the keepers immediately showed up and were able to separate Jati and Mai. With their arrival Schottzie stopped banging her head and went back to eating hay from one of the hanging feeders. Since then, Jati and Mai Thai have not been together while inside and have limited time together outside to prevent further issues. Also Mai Thai has recovered from the situation and is doing perfectly fine. Jati and Mai Thai always have others elephants with them and never isolated. Also they say the the elephant are confined to the front indoor space but if you look closely you will notice the door to the back area is open. On cold days like these the elephants have access to the whole cow side of the barn which is plenty of room for them.So IDA published their annual propaganda list 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants 2021
I know most of the “details” are false and filled with emotion to get the donations but what is amazing about the Cincinnati zoo cows. The video does show dysfunctional behavior which can happen especially among unrelated cows. But “brain damaged”?!!’
i hope the zoo will come up with a quality rebuttal.
