North American Asian Elephant Population 2021

My guess is Romeo, he’s a proven breeder while Colonel is not. Romeo is also more genetically valuable than Colonel and has been mixed with the girls a lot. Also, do you mind sharing your source for this? I always thought Bluebonnet was afraid of bulls so I would be very interested to see if that was no longer true.
The source was from ELEWIKI, but I will contact the zoo just to make sure (if they respond)

I think Whimpy haven’t had any second generation offspring yet? So colonel tusk has some genetic value. Correct me if I am wrong.

Both bulls are captive bred.

Well he is one of the only two surviving sons of Buke with Obert being his only other living relative, and as the only calf of pairing that makes him very valuable

Whimpys daughter Natasha has had Opal, Nellie, Rose, Sunita and another female calf that was born this year, plus Opal has two daughters so the matriarchcal group of Whimpy is of 4 generations plus Whimpy has two more daughters Val and Dorie Marie which are to be furture breeders, along with two more sons Hugo and Cameron Lee.

The sire of Whimpy's youngest offspring is Tommy son of Vance

I would take anything posted on Elewiki with a grain of salt, especially for North America.

I have it from a very, very reliable source (aka someone who actually works with them) that Bluebonnet will not stand for a bulk to breed her. Of course, this could've changed in the past few years since I received that information, however there is an equally high chance that Bluebonnet was simply artificially inseminated again as well. And of course, all this is going off of assuming she is even pregnant at all. I personally don't have any knowledge as to her pregnancy status, however I will agree that she does appear to be showing some mammary development.

Also for the bulls, as mentioned, Romeo is more likely of the two assuming natural breeding , being both a proven sire and genetically valuable. However assuming it was an artificial insemination, it could honestly be any bull trained for collections across the country.

As for Rasha, unfortunately I think her breeding days are behind her. As of four years ago her cycles were very inconsistent, and while technically speaking as long as she is cycling she can still theoretically get pregnant, I doubt another calf is in her future.

oh my gosh.

I forgot about Whimpy’s daughter at Lion Safari. She has been in Oklahoma for so long!

thanks.

Val should be in her prime breeding years for the first calf. Unless she’s still performing.

Your very welcome, Val is now living with her mother and I think the Endangered Ark Foundation is planning to mate her with Obert, or through AI with either Rex, Sneezy, or Kandula as the donor and maybe Obert as well through AI

I don’t think endangered ark foundation is AZA so not in the SSP?

in any case hopefully Val will have a calf soon. Sneezy would be nice as he’s getting older. They can always use Obert after as he’s younger.

They are not AZA, however I’m pretty certain they are in the SSP as non-AZA facilities are occasionally included in SSPs and they transferred their young bull Hugo to Dickerson Park which was most likely an SSP recommended transfer.

Hello everyone! I have a couple questions about the current population.

1. Are there currently any elephants that have tuberculosis or elephants that have been exposed to the virus in the North American Population?

2. Who are aggressive females besides, Indu, Sheena, Patience, and Kamala?

the hawthorn herd at TES is the biggest TB group. Tarra and sissy are exposed. That’s why Nosey is being kept at their area as she has been exposed to TB also when she was with the circus.

some of the ringling elephants have tested positive.

a cow at Bronx zoo tested positive.

it’s more common than people want to think.

aggressive cows: I have heard Minnie at TES has been aggressive and difficult. Not Billie as people think.

another place that manages aggressive cows is Tacoma. Suki is the sole elephant there now.

a few circus cows have been noted to be aggressive.

I believe Patty, Lucy, and Happy are aggressive females. Also Hankao was a aggressive female when she was younger

Yes about hanak

yes about hanako. Tacoma is for aggressive females. Phoenix is as well.

the keeper at Phoenix told me long ago that they want to transit to keeping young bulls. So it’s not likely they will add another female elephant. Unless things have changed.

It would make sense if Phoenix would house bull elephants

Do you know which elephants at Ringling have tested positive?

Looks like Fort Worth has a male calf named "Brazos" on the ground. Just announced per their Facebook and IG posts. Cant wait to find out who the new mom is!
Was hoping for a female calf but this is still absolutely amazing news! I also can’t wait to find out who the mother and the father is!
