Cincinnati does not plan to move out Kabir and Sanjay anytime soon. Ideally the zoo wants to keep them in a bachelor herd but until then the two boys get along very well with Anak and SheRa.
How many exhibits are within the new complex?

According to a friend in Cincy there are two large outdoor spaces along with the side yard which the herd currently has access to. The largest yard is in front of the house and includes the huge 205,000 gallon pool. The side yard will have no water feature but there is something on the smaller scale in the other large yard.

I have been doing some research into the North American Circus Elephant population recently and it appears from my research that 0.1 Okha who lived with Brian Franzen has passed away sometime since the beginning of August. 0.1 Viola and 0.1 Isa have moved from the Circus World Museum to Endangered Ark Foundation early this year but Viola passed away sometime after her arrival. Two Tails Ranch currently has four female elephants Patty, Tika, Bunny, and Roxy. On the list at the beginning of the thread it states that Shelly and Marie are at Two Tails but they have lived at Tarzan Zerbini's property in Missouri for quite some time now (pre-2017). A majority of the Ringling herd has been transferred to White Oak which now has 26 individuals. Elephant Walk has changed its name to Elephant Oasis and is now open to private tours with their single female Lady Essex. The Carden International Circus' elephants are currently owned by two different people with Larry Carden owning a single female and Brett Carden owning two. Also Vicky at Carden Circus has passed away sometime over the last two years. All former elephants that resided at Carson & Barnes Circus have been moved to the Endangered Ark Foundation. This leaves the Endangered Ark Foundation with the following elephants: 0.1 Lulu, 0.1 Chang, 0.1 Dory, 0.1 Isla, 0.1 Rosie, 0.1 Zola, 0.1 Margaret, 1.0 Timmy/Tommy, 1.0 Olbert, 0.1 Val, 0.1 Libby, 0.1 Becky, 0.1 Del Rita, 0.1 Alda, 0.1 Susie, 0.1 Traci, 1.0 Cameron, 0.1 Bunny, 0.1 Lisa, 0.1 Wimpy, 0.1 Lily, and 0.1 Isa. Kelly passed away sometime in between April and May of 2023 at Carson & Barnes Circus.

Okha is still alive just not traveling.

Two tails has 4 elephants total Marie, Shelly, Tika and Patti

Carden elephants should be moving to Buckleys place sooner rather than later

Thank you for the corrections! Which elephants are currently located at Tarzan Zerbini property as according to the USDA there were two elephants at Zerbini as of September, 2023? It's good to hear that the Carden gals will soon be at a better facility. Once the Carden elephants move will their no longer be any circus elephants left the US besides Okha?

Very sad news to hear.:(

She's been a beloved member of the Saint Louis Zoo for over half a century now; and was the matriarch of their dynamic herd. Hopefully both Ellie and Pearl will step up in her absence.
This is devastating news. She was one of my favorites. I wonder if the zoo will be looking for new elephants for the herd, or if they will try breeding again.
Saint Louis are in an interesting predicament now, with seven elephants; four older post reproductive cows, three younger cows and one bull. If breeding was to continue, I'd assume this would have to revolve around exporting their current bull, a local favourite (Raja) to another facility.

Two of the cows (Jade and Maliha) are entering the ages were it's now crucial they breed before it obviously gets too late. With the two recent deaths, obviously there's now space for two additional calves, so the best hope in the meantime is to probably AI both cows.

Saint Louis can probably afford to just welcome two calves in the meantime before making any major moves (ie. acquiring a new bull) within the latter half of the next decade. By that time, two of the older cows will be entering their 60's, reaching the end of their lives, so it'll probably be sometime around then a fully focused move is made to fully regenerate the breeding program at Saint Louis.

I heard from multiple volunteers and one staff member that Sabu had successfully mated with either Rudy or Sunny multiple times over the summer! I've heard both names tossed around from the volunteers which makes me skeptical over the information since they have been known to blatantly give out false information before/ mix up the animals- but the staff member mentioned Sunny specifically and I myself noticed mating behavior between Sunny and Sabu so hopefully at least she will have a calf on the ground in 2025! Fingers crossed the volunteers were right and Rudy was also mated with since she needs to have a calf asap from what I understand...
While it is the hopes Phoebe and Sabu will mate naturally to show Frankie what to do, I heard that since AI with Phoebe has been so successful that they were considering trying that with sperm from Sabu. However it goes I really hope Cbus will see multiple calves in 2025! Hopefully we see at least one female since Columbus seems to have a knack for popping out boys lol. But given Sabu's valuable bloodline ANY calves of his would be great to see, plus solidifying Sunny and Rudy as reproductive females.
Regardless of whether Phoebe and Sabu mate naturally as well, Frankie is still receiving incredibly valuable socialization from an adult bull and we are seeing firsthand that Sabu is wonderful with calves (which means he would do well when the Dublin cows hopefully have calves down the line!).
Speaking of Frankie, would he even be considered for breeding as an adult anyway? Both his paternal and maternal lines are very well represented. Im not an expert on the past of elephant studs though so Im not totally qualified to speak on that.

Considering his representation, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not and instead remains as a non breeding bull at a facility somewhere (like Denver). I think it's important to also remember that although he may not be valuable now, things could change quite quickly in the future, making things like this difficult to predict. In saying that, I think as of now we can safely say, probably not.

This will be a historic birth - the first double fourth-generation elephant in North America!
Nope. It’ll be a partial third generation birth, to be certain, but both Rose Tu and Samson are “merely” partial second generation animals. Rose Tu’s sire was wild born Hugo and first generation mother Me Tu, while Samsons sire was first generation Chanda and mother was wild born Kitty.

The first fourth generation captive bred elephant born in North America will likely be born to either Nellie at ALS, or sired by Chuck or Bowie from Denver and OKC, respectively.

Technically our very first fourth generation animal just entered the population recently, as Sanjay at Cincinnati is fourth gen captive bred, but he doesn’t count since his entire lineage is European bred and born. I suppose Anaks next calf might actually be the first fourth gen born in NA depending on how soon everyone gets breeding, but once again, a bit of a copout since she’s already a mature animal, and her entire lineage is European as well.

Oregon Zoo pregnancy announcement:

Elephant and critically endangered black rhinoceros expecting babies at Oregon Zoo

At Elephant Lands, 29-year-old Rose-Tu is pregnant for the third time.

She and 25-year-old Samson have been spending time together and the zoo said they believe conception occurred in late May.

They expect Rose will give birth in early 2025.
Wonderful news! I was just thinking about whether we had any confirmed Asian Elephant pregnancies in NA, lets hope this announcement is the beginning of many from other zoos going into the next two years!

Awesome news to hear!

Considering it's been eleven years since her last birth, it's great this occurred at the last hour. Samson's been there for quite a few years now, so it's taken them a while to get the job done but I'm extremely relieved they've finally succeeded.

Rose is a very valuable female so fingers crossed for a healthy calf come 2025.:)

From the latest US Fish and Wildlife Service permit applications - Columbus will be receiving an unspecified individual (presumably a Bull to replace Sabu) from African Lion Safari in 2024.
Most likely Johnson if Sabu doesn't manage to get Phoebe, Rudy and Sundara pregnant, but this could also mean that ALS could bring in a bull from Europe
