North American Bonobo Population

Found this information about Bila Isia at Columbus Zoo through their blog:
Bonobo Bila Isia recently experienced a medical crisis: He began showing signs of lethargy and diarrhea. At first, the team treated him with IV antibiotics, which helped. However, when he started guarding his abdomen and showing signs of pain, the decision was made to bring him to the Columbus Zoo’s customized Animal Hospital, where a CT scan revealed bacterial lesions on his liver. Because Bila is not trained to easily accept oral medication, his care team continues to treat him with IV antibiotics. His condition is being closely monitored, and his progress is assessed daily. Bila’s story highlights the persistence required when every second matters, and when an animal depends entirely on the skill and commitment of the people who care for him.

I am curious if anyone knows more than what was posted in the blog. I can’t imagine an animal not being able to take oral medication and having to m constantly be sedated. Can’t be good for his health at all. I really hope he’s okay

Loretta will be 50 years old on Jan 22, 2024! She was born in 1974 to wild born Linda and Kakowet at the San Diego Zoo. Linda and Kakowet had 10 offspring between 1966 and 1980. Five are still living -Lorel in Jacksonville Florida, Louise in Japan, Loretta in San Diego, Kevin in Fort Worth, and Lana in Cincinnati. Loretta is mother to Victor in Fort Worth, Lina in Twycross, England, Erin in San Diego, Makasi in San Diego, and Kalli in San Diego. She is Grandmother to six and Great- Grandmother to four. She is the second oldest bonobo in the United States and the eighth oldest in the world. Words can not describe how special she is. She leads her troop with love, compassion, playfulness, and tolerance. She is adored by her many fans and will sometimes reward us nods and gestures.
Still true. I have become such a fan of Loretta's. She is a very special bonobo.

San Diego Zoo received almost 8-year-old Bertie from the Columbus Zoo, and almost 11-year-old Belle was transferred to Columbus. I hope that both these females will settle in with their new troops and that we will see babies in the near future! Bertie was on exhibit for the first time today. I uploaded a few photos of her.
Bertie is a wild one. She is full of energy. She really likes to hug.
