After the proposed renovations would they have enough space? I'm with you and would love to see a breeding pair.I'd love to see Milwaukee get a breeding pair!

I hope soRenovations would give them more space than they do have, and a breeding pair could be kept. The space will be there. A breeding pair would be great, especially to replace Happy and Patti once they pass.
Some unexpected news out of San Diego. The hippos at the zoo have moved to the Urban Jungle I think in the former Indian Rhino yard.
This does not affect the overall population list in any way so does not need to be posted here. This thread is only for posting births, deaths, transfers, and that sort of thing. Funani and Amahle have only moved to a different part of the zoo, not an entirely new zoo. Besides, like Jambo said, this is only temporary and the girls will be moving back to their main habitat eventually. Some unexpected news out of San Diego. With renovations happening to San Diego's current hippo habitat, then maybe they will be able to get a new male hippo as a future mate for Amahle once the exhibit construction is done.
Are there any Common Hippos in North America who are neutered or spayed?
It is interesting to know that Ignacio is neutered, but he did sire four calves, Pancho (1999-2007, Ellen Trout), Genevieve (2000, Adventure Aquarium), Tucker (2003, Cincinnati), and a stillborn male (2003).1.0 Ignacio is the only individual that is currently listed as being neutered/spayed.

Oh wow! That is amazing to hear that Fiona is officially a half-sister! Now the big question is what will the gender be? I'm hoping for a female. Today is a very special day, which is World Watermelon Day, and hippos LOVE watermelon, and it is fitting that this is the day a baby hippo is born.Bibi has given birth to a healthy calf at the Cincinnati Zoo:
