North American Indian Rhino Population

The Guadalajara Zoo in Mexico acquired (1.1) Indian Rhinos from two different French Zoos in September:
1:0 Bali (9/6/15) Hugo x Behan; born at Whipsnade Zoo in England, and came from Zoo de La Flèche in France
Bali #511 - Rhinos of the World

0:1 Anjali (8/28/19) Sahib x Henna; born at and came from ZooParc de Beauval in France
Anjali #574 - Rhinos of the World
Not only are these are Mexico's first-ever Indian Rhinos, but they are also genetically valuable animals since they are unrelated to the entire North American Indian Rhino population.
Guadalajara isn't AZA-accredited, so it'll be interesting to see if they cooperate with the SSP or not. My guess is not seeing as the animals weren't acquired through it.

Mesker Park - 1.0 Rupert will be transferred to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to breed with their females this fall as he is one of the most genetically valuable males in the population. Mesker Park will be updating the exhibit a little before welcoming another young male greater one-horned rhino next spring.

Rupert has officially arrived in San Diego and is currently in quarantine.

A new, young female is also in quarantine there which is most likely Joona from Denver.

I remain so surprised that cross-border cooperation between Mexico and US institutions despite some Mexican facilities even being AZA-accredited remains an unexplored option or downright ... avoidance strategy. All the more surprising bc Mexico has some fine zoological institutions. Examples where cooperation would be vitally fruitful are African elephant, Asiatic elephant, southern white rhino, Baird's tapir and of course Indian greater one-horned rhino.

Note: the private sector in Indian greater one-horned rhino has transferred some male GOH rhinos to private individuals already .... within the US.

I actually forgot the mention western lowland gorilla. Same thing!
