North American Indian Rhino Population

1.0 "Mohan" from the Buffalo Zoo was transferred to another zoo earlier this month on an SSP recommendation.

Mohan is now at the Oklahoma City Zoo, joining Niki and Shanti, and is slated to breed with Niki. Shanti is actually also Mohan's grandmother!

A third calf this year has been born at the San Diego Safari Park to first time mum, Anandi. The sire is again, Maza/Capone and the calf is another little boy.

Alta, born on 12/26/04 at the Bronx Zoo, was killed at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on 10/18/24 after a 10 year old male GOHR gained access to her habitat and also injured her then 9 month old calf. The incident is discussed in an USDA Inspection Report dated 12/19/24 for an inspection on 11/18/24.

What an unfortunate accident. A valuable breeding cow was lost.... Yet accidents of the sort happen unfortunately.
 
Thats so unfortunate! I remember how about 5-10 years ago Arjun & Jamie’s (Zoo Tampa’s former breeding pair) male calf Jahi was transported to San Diego after living at the Central FL Zoo and died of mysterious circumstances when he was still quite young.
