North American Pygmy Hippo Population

She just celebrated her 50th birthday at the Fund for Animals sanctuary. So, it was not too her detriment. Generally though, I would agree ..., it seems it was space issues (and the original transfer was 22 years ago ...).

Wow, certainly believe she is the oldest of her species in captivity worldwide! Quite an age she's managed to reach.

Well the sanctuary is clearly incorrect about her age as she was born on February 16, 1976.

What facility is Giraffe Ranch? Is/was ut synonimus with Safari Wilderness (Lakeland) collection?
They are both owned by the same person, and USDA reports are nested under Giraffe Ranch as Site 1 (Safari Wilderness) and Site 2 (Giraffe Ranch). But they are different places located about 45 minutes away from one another. The hippos are at Giraffe Ranch.

I want to ask a few questions. Will Toronto Zoo pygmy hippo breed since Penelope left for John Ball Zoo. Why is the pygmy hippo population in zoos so low. There are maybe 27 individuals(not sure about this) This is off-topic but I cannot find the Nile Hippo thread population. Is there one?

That is San Francisco's only pygmy hippo. I am curious if there are plans to obtain others, or phase them out as a species at the zoo?

ZooTampa welcomed a rare and endangered pygmy hippo on Sunday night (March 31).

According to a release from the zoo, the female pygmy hippopotamus weighed about 10 pounds and hasn't been named yet.

The baby and her mother, 20-year-old Zsa Zsa, are doing well.
