North American Sloth Bear Population

I doubt there are zoo intentionally managing Sri Lankan sloth bears, however it's likely at least the Woodland Park pairings might yield pure Sri Lankan sloth bears. Personally, I'm more concerned though with having a genetically healthy sloth bear population, which would mean more zoos need to start having breeding success.
It be rather easy to import some surplus sloth bears from the CZA/India(n) Subcontinent area. Plenty abound. I would favour the Sri Lankans to go back to Sri Lanka proper.

And I’d have to speculate that they don’t plan on breeding Khali either, since she’s getting up there in age, and is from a decently-represented line.
Holding deemed surplus or non-reproductive individuals for the AZA Sloth Bear SSP is also a facility function and task for zoos involved with this program. It is very commendable that the Little Rock Zoo provides that accomodation (even though their Arkansas environment and financial situation is more challenging than the richer up north zoos and collections).
