Would it be ok if I start working on an updated population list?
Got it, hopefully once the summer rolls around we will be able to get an updated list. That is usually left to the person that originally created the list.
It be rather easy to import some surplus sloth bears from the CZA/India(n) Subcontinent area. Plenty abound. I would favour the Sri Lankans to go back to Sri Lanka proper.I doubt there are zoo intentionally managing Sri Lankan sloth bears, however it's likely at least the Woodland Park pairings might yield pure Sri Lankan sloth bears. Personally, I'm more concerned though with having a genetically healthy sloth bear population, which would mean more zoos need to start having breeding success.
I will give you guys a list shortly. Certainly ZIMS does not have most of the Indian Subcontinent zoos around. It be rather easy to import some surplus sloth bears from the CZA/India(n) Subcontinent area. Plenty abound. I would favour the Sri Lankans to go back to Sri Lanka proper.
It's crazy how much her face resembles her father ... if I didn't know any better I'd have thought the bear in the photos was Goof. Especially interesting since her daughter much more closely resembled Hani's mother.21-year-old 0.1 Hani from Brookfield moved to the Little Rock Zoo in early April.
Little Rock Zoo
Out of all the places, why Little Rock? I can’t remember, but how many exhibit's do they have for the Sloth Bears? Just don’t understand why Little Rock was chosen, as I would think other facilities would have more room.21-year-old 0.1 Hani from Brookfield moved to the Little Rock Zoo in early April.

They have four exhibits so they are able to accommodate Hani.Out of all the places, why Little Rock? I can’t remember, but how many exhibit's do they have for the Sloth Bears? Just don’t understand why Little Rock was chosen, as I would think other facilities would have more room.
Does that include the former Grizzly Bear exhibit? The only downside is that those 4 exhibits are insanely small! They have four exhibits so they are able to accommodate Hani.
Yes it does; the exhibits are definitely on the small side but are adequate for them.Does that include the former Grizzly Bear exhibit? The only downside is that those 4 exhibits are insanely small!
Given how Khali and Hani are up there in age, I'd assume the SSP is using Little Rock for surplus Sloth Bears. I doubt they would try and breed with 4 total sloth bears on display.
And I’d have to speculate that they don’t plan on breeding Khali either, since she’s getting up there in age, and is from a decently-represented line.Hani hasn’t been able to breed successfully for the last 11 years, so her breeding days are definitely over.
Holding deemed surplus or non-reproductive individuals for the AZA Sloth Bear SSP is also a facility function and task for zoos involved with this program. It is very commendable that the Little Rock Zoo provides that accomodation (even though their Arkansas environment and financial situation is more challenging than the richer up north zoos and collections). And I’d have to speculate that they don’t plan on breeding Khali either, since she’s getting up there in age, and is from a decently-represented line.
