Sad news out of Omaha - 0.1 Kara has passed away at the age of 23.
Omaha's Zoo & Aquarium on Instagram: "In May, we shared with our community that Kara, 23-year-old sloth bear, had entered end-of-life care. Today, we are incredibly saddened to share that Kara has passed away. Yesterday, after her cancer had progressed to the point that she could no longer live comfortably, the difficult decision was made to provide her with a peaceful passing. Cancer touches so many lives, including those of animals. We share in this sorrow with our animal care team who feels this loss deeply, our guests who knew Kara, and with all whose lives have been touched by cancer."

There should still be 1.0 at bear at Omaha, but I know a lot of movement since last full update. Does anyone know is still in Omaha.
1.0 Bodo (2009) should still be there. There's been no announcement of any departure.
I know it has been discussed before plenty, but I just have to express a certain level of sadness at the hybridization of the US sloth bear population. The Sri Lankan subspecies is significantly different from the mainland one, and is far more threatened with a total wild population around the 500 mark. I know not every zoo population has to serve as a safety net, but with a population that low extinction is a real risk.
