North Carolina Zoo North Carolina Zoo News 2023

My heart sank for a moment when I saw the alert for this and the African Elephant population thread, but glad it's not a death. I am sure they made the best decision for the big guy, but I will surely miss him.

I was at the zoo today for seasonal work orientation. Some things I noticed.
  • Asia has progressed significantly since the last time I saw it in November. The soil has been terraformed and the foundations and frames of buildings have been laid. Seeded grass has also begun to grow in areas.
  • With the trees still leafless, you have a good view of the Asia construction from the North American entrance and Rocky Coast areas.
  • The wooden foot bridge that will cross the tram road and connect the pathway with Asia has been partially built.
  • The spot where the bridge will connect is directly at the old Prairie Geyser exhibit, where the main pathway has been diverted onto the now demolished Prairie boardwalk while construction on the bridge begins on the pathway side.
