Orangutans in Europe 2020

0:0:1 Bornean Orangutan born at Madrid Zoo to 'Surya', with the sire presumably being 'Dahi'.

1:0 Sumatran Orang-utan born on the 24th of May at Tierpark Hagenbeck, to 'Toba' who is aged 36. The sire has not been confirmed, and is between the 2 males of 'Tuan' and 'Batak'. This is the first Orangutan to have been born at Hagenbeck in 15 years.

Krefeld Zoo have also unveiled their plans to bring Orangutans back to the zoo, following the tragic events of New Year's Day.

1:0 Bornean Orangutan at Dudley Zoo named 'Jorong' passed away on the 15th of July. 'Jorong' sired 3 offspring in his lifetime and passed away aged 25. This leaves Dudley with 1:2, with the remaining male being non-breeding.

0:0:1 Bornean Orang-utan born at La Palmyre to parents 'Barito' and 'Katja'. This brings La Palmyre to 2:1:1 Bornean Orang-utan, although they still hold 0:1 hybrid Orangutan mixed with the Borneans.

Are they at 2,1,1 or at 2,2,1 plus hybrid? Has Tiba Tiba died?

Zoo Ústí nad Labem has announced that 0:2 Bornean Orangutans, 'Ňuňinka' and 'Cantik', will be leaving to move to Auckland Zoo in the coming months. Ústí has also stated they intend to build a new Bornean Orangutan exhibit and have been promised 1:1 Bornean Orangutan from Zoo Madrid ('Sungay') and Ouwehands Dierenpark ('Daya'). The move will leave Ústí without any Bornean Orang-utans, but they will still hold the elderly hybrid male ('Ferda').

Interesting. It was thought at one time that Auckland would aim to go into Sumatrans, I believe, but this must have changed. Their new exhibit looks very good.

0:1 Bornean Orang-utan born at Novosibirsk Zoo in September 2019 to 'Batu' x 'Michelle'. The youngster was rejected by her mother, so has been hand-reared by keepers and named 'Julia'.
