Zoo Parc Overloon Overloon zoo news

ZooParc Overloon has released a new "building of" video of Ngyuwe, the new Central African area:

New information:
- The greenhouse area (building A) with indoor holding for Pygmy hippos, Sitatunga and Drills will also have a nocturnal section in the style of a cave, this will house three species (the third species most likely being the Emperor scorpion)

- The indoor holding in building B will make it possible to switch the animals between the aviary and the outdoor paddock, meaning those two enclosures will most likely be rotational.

- Most of us practically already knew and, even though they haven't officially said it, we can see in the video that the Okapi is the final species that will be living in Ngyuwe.
They blurred it in the video but we can tell:

Notes:
- They didn't reveal the enclosure all the way to the left, seems like this will be part of the Savannah area, so that's at least one extra new species for Overloon, just not for Ngyuwe.
- They seem to have removed the little aviary underneath the Dikdik/Okapi enclosure from the design.
- Earlier I guessed that the enclosure for Drills, DeBrazza's and River hogs was meant for Pygmy hippos and would have underwater viewing, but it appears there will be no underwater viewing of any kind for the Hippos. Oh well

I hoped for Overloon they could have much more innerspaces for their hoofstock and monkeys.
And Duiker and Okapi. I hoped they would choose between these two.

What a coincidence, I just visited the zoo today and looked at the early construction works, wondering where everything was gonna be. Not much to see just yet, but the foundations of Buildings A and B are already visible.

For the time being, the red rivers hogs are off show as their enclosure has been completely demolished. The pygmy hippos are still on show.

I saw every species today, except for the red ruffed lemurs, which are new and are still getting used to their new home. The clouded leopard was unfortunately sleeping indoors, and the viewing window for the bamboo lemurs had been fenced off, but I did still manage to see one (but not the baby). I did see the fossa cubs.

What does seem like an odd decision to me is the location of the new Bactrian camel enclosure, since it is located in an otherwise African area.

Ironically, there will still be no Bongo's in any of the Libema parks despite the heavy focus on Africa in Safaripark Beekse Bergen and the future African rainforest themed area in Overloon.

@ralph, I do think it will only be a matter of time before bongos will be at Libema parks.... Thanks for all the updates! I think my next trip is due when this new themed area Ngyuwe is finished up properly!

The red river hogs are not behind the scenes but have moved to Diergaarde Blijdorp, as the zoo mentioned on social media at the end of January. When the new area is ready, they will bring new red river hogs to the zoo.

Unfortunately, the zoo also reported today that one of their female pygmy hippos died suddenly last weekend. When the new area is ready, a male of this species will join the remaining female to hopefully breed again.

Strangely, despite its location, this enclosure belongs to the Asian area ‘Jangalee’ according to the map.

Yes I noticed that, but that makes no sense and doesn't change the fact it's a weird choice.
Perhaps it is a temperate solution, as the entire area will be developed further in the future. I am guessing the zoo didn't want the camels to leave the zoo and they had plenty of space for a new enclosure, so in that way it does make sense. Also, most visitors won't care and they just want to see animals.

The Jangelee area in general will probably be changing a lot in the future. Since it currently has more South American than Asian species

I'd personally love to see an expansion of Madidi. The area with squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys and capuchins would work well for this. That would mean the pelicans would have to go, perhaps they can switch places with the tapirs (of course both enclosures would need to be refurbished for that to work).
I'd love to see pudus in Overloon as well. The smaller of the 2 bush dog enclosures might be a good spot for them!

Has that been a breeding group of squirrels monkeys? or an all male band?
from where did originate these animals?

I believe there were two groups; one group of 4 and one group of 2. The group of 2 was previously kept elsewhere, but that enclosure had to make way for the development of the new African area.

about what kind of complications (pluriform) do we speak?
anything known about that young camel? pre-mature birth? any infection? bleedings from the mother side?
