Paignton Zoo Paignton Zoo 2021

Nice for the little Ouessant sheep though- they can graze naturally instead of standing on a hardstand all year with just a hay diet. I feel quite pleased for them...:)
Well yes, and more interesting in a more natural setting. I’m very fond of Paignton, just not wild about some of the decisions made in recent years......getting out of Grey Gulls:(

or A Ground Hornbill, Chough, Oropendola, Aussie Magpie and Malay Fish Owl to name a few!

Both the Grey gulls and the Choughs from that aviary were sad losses...and of course much as the sheep benefit from the grazing, perhaps temporarily though, another wild species would be more than welcome in that paddock.

The Pot-bellied pig has moved down the hill into the ranch and there has been some essential maintenance done in-house.
Paignton Zoo reveals lockdown projects - including a new home for a pot-bellied pig!
I shall be interested to see what has happened to the Soay sheep (I think there were two remaining) who are not mentioned as having moved to the new home, and my own particular favourite, Link, the Ouessant ram who wasn't kept with the other Ouessants. I imagine the pig will have taken over his stall and yard.

The FB page quote said a 'flock of six' so would that number include 'Link'? Someone posted that they worked in the Ranch and they 'would especially miss Leon'- is that another name for him? Anyway, I guess you will find out early next week.;)

Leon is the other ram. Link lived separately from the rest of the flock.

Some odds and ends from a first visit yesterday:
All indoor houses closed, of course, and also Monkey Heights (maintenance) so you were either lucky or unlucky with sightings.
Caught a glimpse of one ape only - a gorilla.
All 6 giraffes outside (that will mean a lot to some Zoochatters).
The roseate spoonbills are moving to the former crane/whistling duck aviary near the tapirs, according to a sign. A much showier area for them than the small aviary at the ABC.
A sign on the old camel house says 'Due to the significant age of these buildings, they are planned for redevelopment in the future'.
A sign on the revamped maned wolves enclosure says they are rather shy and most likely to be spotted first thing in the morning when the zoo opens or after 3pm.
The oriental white storks are sitting on a huge nest.
The Ouessant sheep look good in their new home next to the rhinos. They do include my favourite, Link, who responded when we called and ran to the fence expecting his usual stroke and I heard he did the same to other members of his fan club. Maybe grazing and ovine company will make up for his new lack of human contact. No sign of the Soay sheep. The Ranch is still having work done on it.
Didn't have time for the lions/tigers/ Brookside aviary corner.

@Gigit have your favourite all time Paignton Zoo residents Mali and Tatau moved to Colchester yet? I don’t think this would have occurred. I’m hoping a new Male Giraffe has arrived. It has been about 3 years since Yoda passed so I would like to see some Giraffe calf’s born.
Will the redeveloped Bactrian Camel enclosure eventually see Camels return to Paignton.
Finally are any arrivals or departures planned for the bachelor Gorilla group, and is Pertinax alright?

That won't be happening for a long time.

Probably not.

As usual, visitors are not usually privy to such information, so I doubt that @Gigit is aware of possible moves that may have happened/take place.

By the way, does anyone have any info on the Savannah redevelopment? I couldn't find any information on the website posted within the last couple of years, just out of curiosity.
