Le Parc des Félins Parc des Felins news

@twilighter I suppose you mean Palawan leopard cat for Sunda leopard cat ?
Never mind. You miss north chinese leopard and Javan leopard (more difficult to obtain) in your list ;)

He is talking about species present in Europe, rather than merely subspecies - in which case he is correct that the two species PDF are missing are Sunda Leopard Cat (which includes Palawan as a subspecies) and Iberian Lynx.

I meant spices, indeed :)

Parc des Felins took in Montpellier’s tigrinus, so ZTL is indeed wrong and Marco is correct - they now hold both species.

I went to Montpellier the day after this happened hoping to see the Oncilla one last time (a male I think), but it was gone. I can therefore confirm that they have both as well. Montpellier are not temporarily holding Grey-winged trumpeters in the Oncilla exhibit (a species which is free ranging in the tropical hall anyway) but I think they wanted to replace the Oncilla with Ocelot, but I may of course be wrong. At any rate it wasn't entirely clear exactly what they were planning to do.

You must have a look to my previous message @Kifaru Bwana. Tambo is one year old ;)
Excuse us, I overlooked that.

Going back to the rationale for my initial post: what is the point for a EAZA accredited zoo to invest sparse resources into maintaining hybrid zoo leopard. There is a good number of leopard ssp. available that are in dire need of captive spaces?!!!

Especially when the said zoo in the best Cat park in Europe, who cares enough about subspecies that it has 2 Asian golden cat subspecies (although one is only represented by a single individual). I think it's more about having a black leopard for public attraction maybe?

I would not jump to the latter conclusion too quickly either!

I am just not sure why they decided to take in a zoo mix leopard in the first place. To me though, I agree, it seems like a step backward in stead of forward.
