Good to know! We were really in need of new blood for the species in the country
Interesting. Thankfully, more new blood to our already scarce stock. I just wonder where they will be kept...

Probably with the ring-tailed ones, this mixed-species combination is quite common as far as I know.

Olomouc has made an post on their Instagram about the Lemurs, which features a picture of their new home in Cotia. Looks like that they will have the exhibit all for themselves.
Zoo Olomouc on Instagram: "Vari černobílý se zabydluje v novém výběhu v daleké Brazílii! Samec, narozený v roce 2023, byl koordinátorem přidělen ke stejně staré samici v zoologické zahradě Cotia v Brazílii. Držíme pěsti, ať se pár spolu dobře sžívá a tento ohrožený druh lemura přivítá na svět další jedince!✊ #zooolomouc #cotia #travel #brazil #vari"

hey guys, i have some news, the animalia park has now the critically endangered addax
That would be old news. We were already aware about the addax in Cotia.

It is a male born at Brasília in 2014 and its name is Carreirinha.

Hi, I heard that Animalia Park has already finished its elephant enclosure and is waiting for the paperwork to bring them in. Does anyone know anything about it?

¡Hola, Shanti! Welcome to ZooChat.

Unfortunately, Animália Park is as transparent as the North Korean press. They don't really share anything about ongoing works and the like on their social media platforms. So, we are all equally oblivious to any stuff going on behind the scenes in Cotia.

However, there is some speculation going on about which elephant(s) would be housed in said enclosure and the most likely future resident is female Baby, from Beto Carrero World.

You might already be aware that this park in Santa Catarina had a decent-sized zoo (named Mundo Animal) which closed down in 2024, and most of its larger residents (chimpanzees, giraffes, lions and tigers, as well as their lone gemsbok and hippopotamus) were moved to Animália Park. We, Brazilian users, believe she will most likely follow suit and be housed alone (at least for a while) in Cotia.

Baby is definitely not going anywhere near Mato Grosso, since Beto Carrero World never sent any animals to sanctuaries, even if it meant housing their chimpanzees in small islands. And, since she won't be going to São Paulo (the city, not the state), the main candidate for her future home is definitely Cotia.

Hello Shanti, welcome to zoochat! Nice to know someone that works in such a wonderfull zoo like Temaikèn :)

About Animália's elephants, unfortunately we don't know basically anything about it, since the zoo gives no transparency about what happens there internally, up to the point that we don't even know if their plans of keeping the species will come to fruition.

But we do have our suspects. Since there are multiple rumors of them building an Asian themed area, it is quite possible that they will acquire Baby, the last elephant remaining in Beto Carrero World's former zoo, and due to her being the only Asiatic cow at a breeding age in the country (altough it should be noted that soon enough she won't be able to breed aymore), maybe they will use her as a way to acquire more individuals from other countries.

there's also some rumors about brazil and china negotiating a couple of pandas for brazil and animalia is the strongest candidate to house them in brazil.

I don't think that Brazil is directly negotiating with China just for the country to get Giant pandas, since I'm very sure that our government has quite some priorities in mind other than the oreo-coloured bears ;)

But jokes aside, since Brazil and China's political alliance became much stronger this year, who knows? Maybe later this year we'll get the last remaning bear species to be kept in our zoos. But if that's the case, we already have the thread to discuss that: Pandas for Brazil!? [BioParque do Rio]

well, there are news about it, so who knows this may come true some day.

Animália Park has just announced the birth of 0.0.3 melanistic Jaguars (Panthera onca)! The cubs were born about two months ago, from second-time parents Clô and Rudá.

........................................................................ Em Outubro, funcionamos de quarta a domingo. ........................................................................
