Chester Zoo Patna's woman

So, if keepers at Chester still assure you lot that she is coming in March, I guess that may well be correct ...! We will just have to wait and see here!!!

I think ZooGiraffe was referring to a new Black Rhino here....(?)

I can't quite see why Baatchi is to go to Whipsnade if she is later going to be moved somewhere else (like Chester). Pattna and the Black rhinos imported to Chester went there direct...

okay....I looked at Taun's comment on the 'Europe Indian rhino' thread and that seems to answer my question. Whipsnade can keep her seperate from the other rhinos(in the old sheds)while at Chester the enclosure design means she would come in direct contact with Patna. So I guess she will/may still come to Chester in due course ( and what a drawnout puzzle this one's turning out to be....)

Taun, Zoo giraffe (not in that order ofcourse),

The black rhino comment .. I will transport to the Chester's black rhino thread. :)

Regarding the Indian rhino Baatschii: is our speculation right on her? Plan A) first a short quarantaine sojourn at Whipsnade and then on to Chester?
or
Plan B) direct import to Chester ex Basel (not what I heard though and deemed less likely due to reasons I gave in the continental Indian rhino threads)?

i wonder who this could be arriving at this time of the night heading towards patnas pad mmmmmmmmm

heeeey. Is this Batschi?-or another rhino- or a hoax?....;)

if its genuine, its a remarkable coincidence given all the current speculation about whats happening Indian Rhino-wise for Chester. I hope that next time I look at this thread all will be revealed...:)

please what do you take me for of course its not a hoax:):):)

she arrived at 6 and as you can see i added this ten mins later so you could find out first:p

great news

I know there wont be any babies for years, but this how you build success!

Just like with the elephants, they now have a decent size herd that has a good future ahead of them

I'm very sorry that I doubted you- I just find it remarkable that amidst all our speculation a rhino should suddenly turn up like that!!

The big question- is this Batschi from Basel Zoo?

or is it a group of goitered gazelle from Helsinki?????????
the plot thickens!

well i had a phone call to ask if i was out walking my dogs and to becarefull as the rhino was coming through the gate next to the house

i think sometimes people give out a lot of false information as they would like to announce things themselves and it was obviously on the cards for a long time

Baatschi

So Baatschi finally made it and I hope that she is settling in Okay.:)

Do you think the lorry/crate that brought her is big enough to return via Whipsnade and collect the mature Indian rhino bull 'Jaffna', who is due to return to Basel, as a sort of round trip?

Fine thing, now that Baatschii is definitely at Chester. :D

I am still convinced though that if they wish to breed her at 5-6 years of age, they need to bring in an older bull. Currently no older bulls around (untill envisaged move of Hugo ... takes off).
