Nope they got rid of the zebras, due to a problem keeping them in!!Didn't the previous regime have to replace their Zebras with Reindeer for climate reasons?
They also lost a group of 7 Sitatunga due the extreme cold damp conditions that the place has over winter!!
They did however have to get rid of the Red Kangaroo and much later the Red-necked Wallaby due to serious foot problems due to the damp nature of the ground!
Which, considering the natural habitat of the taxon is very damp indeed, really does say something about how damp and cold the area can get.
Hi all,
I have to say that I'm really disappointed with some of the negativity on this thread. You guys are so knowledgeable and friendly about every aspect of zoos and the community it saddens me to see some of you dismissing this zoo before it's even had a chance to open. Yes, the hype will turn out to be misdirection. But you are all smart people - you know that a zoo can't possibly open straight out of nowhere with endangered species, because they have to start somewhere.
I was massively upset to watch Blackbrook go, but if the infrastructure is still there then why can't this be a viable option.
I say instead of dismissing it, lets rally round and support it. You never know, with us all on side it may well get a chance to be something special. I for one will be knocking on the doors when it opens!
I personally think a new gallery needs creating as Peak Wildlife Park will not be anything like the much loved place that Blackbrook was to many of us!!!Is a new gallery going to be created for Peak Wildlife Park? Or just kept in the Blackbrook gallery?
