oh boy, did I! I pretty much recognized the chirping right away, but the growly noise took a bit longer and when I finally figured it out I wanted to smack myself. hahahaha

California Condors on exhibit on the Arizona Trail

From the zoo's Facebook page:
We are very excited to announce two male California condors have arrived at the Zoo! California condors are one of the largest flying birds and one of the most endangered. The wild California condor population was nearly wiped out due to the destruction of condor habitat, poaching, and lead poisoning. By 1982 only 22 birds remained in the wild. A breeding program was established and thanks to conservation efforts California condors have recovered from the brink of extinction. The Phoenix Zoo is now one of only a handful of facilities where you can view these amazing birds. See them on the Arizona trail during your next visit and stay tuned for more information!

Condors will make a very nice addition - only ones on display in Arizona.

(Supposedly they are seen often in Grand Canyon village, but I have never seen them on any of my visits).

According to the zoo's Facebook page, the new female Sumatran Tiger is here and will be out on display "soon". This is particularly exciting since we've been told by different sources "Late spring" and "not until the new tiger exhibit is done" which won't be until late July or sometime in August so to have her here now makes many of us Phoenix Zoo fans quite happy!

Yes. I haven't been by the zoo since they've started it, but a friend/co-worker has been a couple of times and she said it's coming along nicely.

Wow. I'm not sure when they changed it. I don't think it was like that the last time I was there, which was a few months ago. I really like it, but they'll have to change it once the new Tiger exhibit opens this summer.
