An update about the new Asian elephant enclosure.

You can walk around the whole exhibit. In the building, the visitors will walk along the inside pool. The arrows indicates the entrance and exit.

The blue arrow indicates the gate for the bull, the orange aroow is the first gate for the cows. When you walk around the new exhibit, you will go across the river. The red lines indicates the new way for the visitors along the bull-enclosure.
 
Maybe it is already known, but the 5 Asiatic elephants of the Antwerp Zoo will move at the end of February/ begin of March to their new indoor enclosure in Planckendael. The outdoor enclosure will be ready a time later.

And the bull will be Hussein of Hamburg.
 
For the first time, there has hatched a Great White Pelican. Also the Dalmatian Pelicans having 2 eggs.
The 8 Dalmatian Pelicans of Antwerp were combined temporary with the 4 Great White Pelicans in Planckendael because of works in Antwerp. But now the Pelicans seems to be breeding, it's not sure that the Dalmatian Pelicans going back to Antwerp. The last succesfull offpspring of them was back in 2004.

It is common knowledge that group size is paramount for breeding in pelicans. Small groupings of 10-12 birds will usually do. It seems adding the 4 whites has just swayed the Dalmatians and stimulated some serious breeding behaviour and egg-laying! :)
 
Any indication as to where the 0:4 Asian Lion cubs born in 2010 (Kolya X Chandra) will be moved to?

It is now exactly one month before the Asian Elephants of the Antwerp Zoo moving to their new enclosure in Planckendael. After 10 days of quarantine, the grand opening will be a fact on June 29. The bull, Hussein, wil arrive one week before the females.

So, an update of the works, will be nice I think ;) .

Yes, indeed. See my post in the Antwerp Zoo topc:
3 Asian Elephants bulls of the age of 4 till 5 years old shall be moved the half of July to the Antwerp Zoo: Bun (Tbilisi), Budi (Dublin) and Ming Jung (Cologne). Budi will be moved later to Denver Zoo (USA).
From the 18th of June, the current Elephant enclosure of the Anwerp Zoo will be updated: everything will be reinforced, the rubber floor in the stables will be changed to a floor of sand and a crush will complete the enclosure.

Thanks for confirmation on that transfer. Any indication where Krakow intend to source a male from?
