Planckendael Planckendael animal park, Mechelen, Belgium.

A pair of Alpine ibex from Planckendael have been moved to 'Domaine des Grottes de Han' wildlife reserve with the aim of establishing a breeding group for reintroduction to a Rewildling Europe in Velebit, on the Adriatic coast of Croatia.

Good initiative. It would be helpful if further zoos be involved (as you may know there is a Alpine wide initiative for reintroduction of captive-bred ibex into the wilds which has helped put back the species from where it was previously extirpated).

I suspect that this leaves Planckendael with only 2 ibex (I thought - if my memory serves me correctly - they previously had 4 and they are on phase out).

2 Slender-horned gazelles ( Gazella leptoceros ) born at Planckendael, both female. Planckendael now has 15 specimens of this rare Gazelle which is in Europe only kept at Planckendael and Landau Zoo in Germany.

The 4 Asian small-clawed otter young had their first check-up by the vet. Everything is OK and they have also been sexed : 1 male and 3 females :)

Any news on the breeding of their Asian elephants? Chang has been there for two years now....
