Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

One thing that I am disappointed though is the choice of only one exhibit animal. Southeast Asia is one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet and there is particularly great reptile diversity, I would've liked at-least one new reptile species from the region, preferably a snake or lizard species.

This disappoints me too, we didn't need another bug. Who thought stick insect was better than King Cobra, Reticulated Python, sailfin lizard, Elongated Tortoise, or star tortoise? Out of so many good and threatened reptile options, why did we get a bug??

Also with this pack, we've got the compulsory wild dog species (at least this time it's a fairly interesting species). They do love to re-use that wolf model over and over. Grey Wolf, Arctic Wolf, Dingo, Dhole...

Pretty much everything in this pack is a tweak of something we already have. Another bear, another large cat, another tapir, another large dog, another pig. The Proboscis Monkey and Binturong are better. No gibbons, deer, or ground birds... However the species lineup is pretty good, bar the bug.

Honestly I'm pretty fine with these animal picks. They are for the most part based in existing rigs and models (another canine, feline, bear, tapir, etc.) but at the same time they have put a fresh spin of them. For example the sun bear with the apparent tongue animations and tropical biome is pretty different from any other bear (it would have been far more outrageous if they added a syrian brown bear or something) and the dhole at least is not another subspecies of wolf. And the binturong is one of my favorite animals ever so I'm not going to complain. The babirusa is fairly bizarre-looking to not feel as a retread of the warthog.

The only animal that disappoints me a bit is the exhibit choice considering we still don't have cobras, pythons or geckos. Also I really liked to have a gibbon somewhere, but that probably isn't coming unless the devs get the grasp of their brachiating animations.

Another think I really like is that most of them aren't really large animals. The smaller animal niche remains fairly underrepresented in PZ.

I Hope there will be a Steam Sale in the Next Weeks.

By the way are Steam Sales only for the Base Game or can you get the dlc Packs too?

.do you Guys think that the south east Asia Pack will ever be cheaper aviable?

If they do a Steam sale soon, the Southeast Asia Pack will likely not go on sale, though the other packs probably would. If you want to get the SEA Pack cheap you'll have to wait at least a few months.

Well Southeast Asia is coming and I am both thrilled and a little disheartened by the choice of animals but lets say we get a total of 10 packs all together here would be my picks for the remaining five

1. Aviary Pack - 4 habitat birds; Trumpeter Swan, Australian Pelican, Marabou Stork and Rockhopper Penguin and introduce aviary mini-exhibits with 10 birds; Bald Eagle, Snowy Owl, Kookaburra, Eurasian Black Vulture, Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Scarlet Macaw, Greater Bird-of-Paradise, New Zealand Kiwi, Rhinoceros Hornbill and Toco Toucan.

2. Aquarium Pack - 4 fully aquatic habitat animals; West Indian Manatee, Sand Tiger Shark, Bottlenose Dolphin, and Green Sea Turtle. and introduce the aquarium mini exhibit with 10 available animals; Ocellaris Clownfish, Volitans Lionfish, Red-Bellied Piranha, Electric Eel, Epaulette Shark, Moon Jellyfish, Koi, Mandarin Dragonet, Blue Tang, and Atlantic Mackerel

3. Africa Pack - 5 habitat animals; Black Rhinoceros, Caracal, Meerkat, Addax and Masai Giraffe with 3 exhibit animals for each mini-exhibit type; Naked Mole Rat, African Grey Parrot, and African Cichlid

4. Biodiversity Pack - 10 habitat animals; Przewalski's Wild Horse, Moose, Wolverine, Musk Ox, Fennec Fox, Tasmanian Devil, Capybara, Three-Toed Sloth, American Beaver and Emu
With 10 animals for each mini-exhibit type
Terrarium - King Cobra, Emerald Tree Boa, Black Rat Snake, Madagascan Day Gecko, Veiled Chameleon, Alligator Snapping Turtle, Eastern Long-Necked Turtle, Atlas Moth, Hellbender, Cane Toad
Aviary - Rainbow Bee-Eater, Grey-Headed Fruit Bat, Mandarin Duck, Scarlet Ibis, Peregrine Falcon, Barn Owl, Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Victoria Crowned Pigeon, Common Raven, and Golden Pheasant
Aquarium - Porcupine Pufferfish, Banded Archerfish, Japanese Spider Crab, Common Octopus, Blue-Spotted Stingray, Amazon Angelfish, Bosemani Rainbowfish, Longnose Butterflyfish, Green Moray Eel, and Sterlet Sturgeon

5. Prehistoric Pack - 5 habitat animals; Woolly Mammoth, Quagga, Megatherium, Dodo, Saber-Tooth Cat and 3 animals for each mini-exhibit type; Beelzebufo, Archaeopteryx, and Coelocanth

I know this will probably never happen but if they did I am confident us players would have almost 0 complaints

I think upcoming DLC packs will vary their animal/building piece ratio according to the theme. For example, an Africa Pack could very well be a full animal pack, considering we already have an African building set.

Some continents people have suggested as plausible DLCs are North America and Europe, but now, with this newfound variety in DLC size, I'd say they insted should go for a Americas Animal Pack and an Eurasian Animal Pack.

This way, they could cover enough representation for NA and Europe (moose, deer, wolverine, etc) but also make space for staple animals from South America that got excluded from the SA pack (like the capybara), and Asian animals from the desert and temperate regions. Then they could do another 2 DLCs with a more balanced ratio of animals and building pieces, hopefully including an aviary pack.

I doubt we will see extinct animals in Planet Zoo, that's what Jurassic World Evolution is for.

This is what I'm thinking. Since there's already India and East Asia building themes, maybe they couldn't come up with distinct new building items for an SEA pack. If we get a North America pack, it might go back to the traditional format and give us log cabin or wild west items or something.

Animal selection is great, although I agree that a reptile would have be preferable to an insect. But I'm so happy we're finally getting a smaller cat species!

I suspect that if (when?) an African or avian pack comes out, it will follow this Animal Pack format but other continents like Europe and North America would get smaller standard packs with building pieces.

I really like the selection of animals for this pack - although there are species I would have liked to have seen (a gibbon obviously, also a Vietnamese sika, sarus crane and Owston's civet would have been great, with king cobra and tokay gecko as good exhibit animals), I can't think of any species currently in the pack that I would remove.

Just seen on the Frontier forums that an announcement has been made on which mixed-species enclosures are possible with the Southeast Asia pack animals. The following can all get bonuses from being mixed together:

- Malayan tapir with binturong, Bornean orangutan, Indian elephant and proboscis monkey
- proboscis monkey with Indian elephant
- sun bear with binturong

Malayan tapir WITH (= together with) Indian elephant - I have my doubts that this would work in reality....
(on the other side, put in unprotected living trees in an elephant exhibit won't work either - or at least not that long).

Interesting. I had always been under the impression that the mixed-species bonuses were for species that would benefit from being mixed, but I don’t think any of these new mixes would benefit each other very much.

They've mixed Sun Bears and Binturongs at Chester Zoo so at least that one's based on reality. I'm pretty sure I've seen Malayan Tapirs and Binturongs being mixed as well.

I’m amazed that orangutans and proboscis monkeys don’t get any bonuses; that would have been the most probable given both species interlaping range.

I still wouldn't stop you putting them in the same exhibit in sandbox mode though.
This is what I meant by my previous comment. There are species you can mix together, for example hippos and flamingos, and species that the game encourages you to mix, which are the species that get bonuses. The new mixed bonuses would work (apart from possibly the tapir and elephant) but I wouldn’t think these mixes would benefit either animal particularly.
