Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

If we ever get aviaries, they may be prebuilt, not custom, and birds will perform looped animations (as Pteranodons in JWE) to avoid bumping into walls & objects inside.
Also Prehistoric Kingdom has an aviary for Microraptors, but probably with looped animations as well.

Well, maybe if they actually have the intention to make the aviaries like this, it would be great if they at least developed some kind of customization... Don't know... Maybe five or six different shapes and a few different possible positions to add branches and resting platforms? Would be already better than nothing...

Or perhaps made larger aviaries with larger birds and used animations similar to the diving species?

I have just seen some news from yesterday regarding an official update to the polar bears in Planet Zoo.

Now, the land space requirement for a single animal is being reduced from 6000m² to 3250m². Additional animals will now require 650m² instead of 1000m².

Water requirements are being reduced from 2000m² for a single animal to 720m², with additional animals needing 360m² instead of 250m².

To counteract this space requirement reduction and keep the polar bear a challenging species to keep, its enrichment requirements have been increased.

Finally, to more accurately depict wild polar bear distribution, they are having the Taiga biome added to their suitable biomes and are also having the Asia continent tag added.

The information comes from a post on the Frontier Planet Zoo forum:
Polar Bears and your Zoo ‍❄️

There has been an announcement of what is coming for update 1.6, including deep diving for four of the bear species (polar, grizzly, Formosan black and sun), custom audio, vista points and habitat cameras with effects including night vision.

The full list of changes can be found here:
Update 1.6 coming to Planet Zoo, 22 June

Of course, an update has always preceded the announcement of a DLC the following day. I'm guessing it will be the four African animals plus a single exhibit species.

Africa Pack has just been announced - meerkat, Southern white rhinoceros, fennec fox, African penguin and sacred scarab beetle. Meerkats apparently come with digging behaviour.

The official announcement thread is included here:

The announcement trailer is here:
Yes! Finally an African Rhinoceros! I'm looking forward to seeing the Fennec Foxes as well!

You can see the Southern White Rhinoceros in the background on the Instagram story.

Already seen images of the white rhinoceros, meerkat and fennec fox - they all look great. I'm especially pleased at how small the meerkats are; I was worried when I heard they were coming that they would end up like the Zoo Tycoon 2 ones, which were hugely oversized.

They all look very good actually. I like the Rhino the most.

We could do without all the hundreds of scenery objects again to be honest, I don't think they're really what people want but Frontier doesn't seem to get that we want more species over the same wall pieces over and over.

The digging, accurately-sized meerkats and the white rhino already makes it worth buying :D
My only gripe is with the exhibit animal, I'd rather have a cobra or chameleon instead of yet another beetle :s

Also I hope this isn't the last time Africa is revisited, because I'd hate it if we don't have any baboons, secretary birds, red river hogs or serval by the time the official PZ run is done :(

They should add the digging behavior to a few other species later, like Aardvark.

Took them long enough to add two essential animals that should've been in the base game (meerkat, and white rhino), but I'm happy that it finally happened. I do believe that this should've been an animal pack though with how many requested species from the continent could've been added. Also disappointed with the exhibit species being an insect again.

I even liked the animals and theming, but most of the species are out of context with the theme, wich seems very based on ancient egyptian/arab art and culture, and most of the animals in the pack don't exist in the area where these cultures actually have/had influence (Saharan Africa and Middle east). African Penguin, Southern White Rhino and meerkat are from the very south of the african continent. The only exception here is the fennec fox. Seriously, a meerkat statue with egyptian theme? I mean, this is a game, of course, but it would be like making a maned wolf statue with a Comanche theming...

The three revealed animals look great! Can't help but echo others that the beetle is a real disappointment. A spitting cobra, mamba, chameleon, gecko, or even Pancake Tortoise would have been far preferable to a tiny beetle. Also I don't care for all the new scenery pieces, I've not even used a quarter of the ones I already have.
Digging behavior however is quite interesting, and hopefully we will see it applied to more species such as the Aardvark, Gray Wolf, and Nile Monitor.
