Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

Very happy to get a North American Animal Pack as it covers the gaping NA hole previously found in the roster. I'm also happy to see they selected all these habitat animals - there isn't a single animal in there I'm unhappy about. I was afraid to see the Black Bear show up because it would be so easy to adapt one of the other bears, but I'm happy they resisted the temptation.

Animals I feel would've also fit really well: Raccoon, Bobcat, Coyote, Wolverine, Elk, White-tailed Deer, Musk Ox and Bighorn Sheep. Out of the DLC line-up, I might switch out the Prairie Dog (I'm a bit worried it's a bit too small) for a Raccoon or Wolverine. Of course, I also think the Arctic Fox should've been part of the Arctic Pack (and the Wolf should've been dropped), which would free up another slot. I think I would've liked to see the Bighorn Sheep or Elk as a replacement.

The exhibit animal is a bit uninspiring, but I can (more than) live with that.

By my estimations, that leaves Europe as the final continent to cover. My money is on the following (4+1) line-up:

  • Eurasian Lynx (flagship EU DLC species)
  • Alpine Ibex (interesting climbing mechanics, first Ibex-type in the game)
  • Red Deer (token Deer inclusion for PZ. Can be found through the continent and are very well represented in zoos. I'd prefer the Red Deer over the Fallow or Roe variants)
  • Walrus (semi-aquatic and deep diving pick for the pack. Would also fit NA and Asian zoos nicely)
  • Fire Salamander (possibly the most iconic exhibit animal in Europe)
Possible alternatives would be the Iberian Lynx (I prefer the Eurasian variant personally, also because The Eurasian Lynx would fit NA zoos better), Wild Boar (very common both in zoos and through the continent), Eurasian Badger (pretty iconic but have a hard time including it over my 4 picks) and the Red Fox (though I'll admit, after the inclusion of the Fennec and Arctic Fox, my hunger for foxes is decently sated).

And eventually, on to an aviary pack! I do hope for more than 7+1 birds, but that's a whole different story.

A Europe pack next would make sense but I could see them doing something else because it may be seen as too similar to North America. I wouldn't be surprised if they finally do an aviary pack next or maybe backtrack and do Asia again for an Indian pack or something. Could also see maybe a full on aquarium pack or an islands pack. I don't think an Antarctic pack will ever happen.

After my visit to Chester Zoo earlier this week, I am hoping that Frontier will continue for a while with more DLCs as I would love to see many more species added onto the game.

Even if the smaller birds don't make it in, I would like to see other birds like Greater Rhea, Emu, Scarlet Ibis, African Crowned Cranes, Wattled Cranes, Spoonbills, Storks etc as the game is very short on bird species.

I do think next will be a European/Eurasian DLC pack. After that, go back on some packs already done as many species were left out on many of the existing packs.

Even regional packs might be good with more animal species. For example a "Madagascar" pack.

I have a fairly big list of species that I would like to see make it.

I definitely hoping for a big aviary pack after this current NA pack. The more (flying) birds we get, the better.

I do also hope to see a Europe-centric pack one day.

Planet Zoo has posted additional posts on their Instagram account about the new pack featuring beaver, sea lion, bullfrog, American alligator, moose, black-tailed prairie dog, cougar and Arctic fox. This pack seems better than the Africa Pack, and I would rather spend my money on this than the Africa Pack, with only 5 non-specialty animals.

Good news! Planet Zoo just shared some posts on Instagram with the animal species for the North America Animal Pack. It will have: sea lion (California or Steller sea lion), beaver, cougar, bullfrog, American alligator, moose, black-tailed prairie dog and Arctic fox. Photos of the beaver and moose have already appeared and the animals look great and are more detailed than ever. A trailer was also released showing all species except the Arctic fox and prairie dog.
This was already announced hours ago here.

The animal roster is pretty much what I expected, although I didn't expect the arctic fox (in hindsight, it makes sense since it offers some biome diversity to the pack) or the American bullfrog. (exhibit species are hard to predict, lol. But I also expected a "cooler" animal) I was hoping we'd get a more obscure species in the mix, but given how much iconic North American animals there are and how many players wanted those animals, I'm not surprised that they stuck to well-known species.

A lot of players are disappointed by the lack of a wolverine. Which would have been cool, but I strongly suspect that we're gonna get a Europe pack and they're probably saving certain species/types for that.

I really like to have wildlife from the Americas in my zoos, so naturally I'm happy with the pack. And this pack gives me enough to build a zoo JUST for North American wildlife!

The animals are not really what I expected, actually they all surprise me, especially the Arctic fox and prairie dog. Although we don't have wolverines, raccoons, skunks or black bears, I think these animals are really great too. What strikes me is that almost all of these animals have already appeared as mods, and I think Planet Zoo wants to "compete" with the mod community by giving us special species we've wanted for a long time like sea lions and beavers. The other animals like moose, American alligator and Arctic fox were also some popular Planet Zoo mods. I also think it's great that we get pumas and beavers, because these are real iconic animals for which e.g. a (mountain) sanctuary can be made, as seen in many series and youtube videos. I think this pack is really 100 times better than the Africa Pack and let's keep our fingers crossed for more DLCs like this, because to always keep complaining about some animals that we don't get, like raccoons (which in hindsight are not that much use, but would have been nice) doesn't help either.

many people are saying that the arctic fox should've been added in the arctic pack, and i agree with that.

The Arctic Pack was the very first DLC (outside of Deluxe), so they had very little time to work on it so that's why they went for the wolf, the unique rig animal in that DLC is the Dall Sheep, making a Fox would've taken at least 2 weeks more worth of time and the DLC would've been "out of context" since Christmas was already pretty close; Anyway, it's nice to have some obscure and less popular species in the game

I don't think they started working on the Arctic Pack after they released PZ. I'm assuming (part of) the DLC was already done when PZ shipped. I just know I was (and am) disappointed with the animals in the Arctic Pack.

i once saw a list of animals that people wanted in the arctic park, and the animals are listed as they didn't want to get, but they got.

Let's be real, the Polar Bear should've been baseline. The Reindeer was a good add, I don't mind the Dall Sheep but at the very least the Arctic Wolf should've been binned as a concept. Arctic Fox would've elevated the pack from lackluster to pretty decent by itself.

yeah, i also agree the polar bear should be in the standard edditon, in my opinion i would add the musk ox instead of the dall sheep.
