I’m going to go against an islands idea and opt for a highlands idea. Think about it, if you get deserts animals in a hot environment, why not go somewhere colder like a mountain chain.

Probably because the next DLC will be in December? Why release a mountain or polar pack now and then likely have to release something similar in 3 months.
But based on the 'mixing' hint in the announcement I too am on the mocktails train of thought and thinking Islands. Islands was a heavy front runner prior to arid so I see no reason Frontier would abandon the concept. North America has basically had three dedicated packs and essentially has all the staples (moose, grizzly, cougar, NA beaver, alligator, timber wolf, bison, raccoon, polar bear, reindeer, pronghorn) AND several oddball/unexpected additions too (prairie dog, skunk, red fox, arctic fox, arctic wolf, dall sheep). That's more than most regions have where many staples are still missing. I'd gamble on a potential American Black Bear (pretty much the only staple missing) anniversary gift too.
If it is an island I'd guess:
1. Tasmanian Devil (it would be a troll not to, even if I'm not particularly excited by it. I think it does deserve inclusion too).
2. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo (another high wishlister, a rather unique species and more Oceanian representation).
3. Aye-Aye (another extremely unique species and reasonably high on the wishlist, arguably the last major ommission from Madagascar).
4. Sulawesi Crested Black Macaque (We need more monkeys and this is a very common zoo species and very different to the aye-aye which I think enables two primates in one pack).
OR
4. Radiated Tortoise (a unique and smaller tortoise, fairly common in zoos and a conservation story).
OR
4. Bernier's Teal (another Madagascar possibility, again common in zoos and I'm sure a waterfowl would be well received).
A handful of other options include:
- Lowland Anoa
- Visayan Warty Pig
- Coquerel's Sifaka
Exhibit: maybe Fijian banded iguana?
To go with this pack I'd go for either a Caribbean 'shanty theme of vibrant colours and corrugated pieces or an Pacific Island set, again colourful inspirations from places like Fiji.
