Planet Zoo Planet Zoo!

They didn't say if it was the last DLC, I personally don't think it is, and we'll at least get 1-2 more.

The update that comes with the Leopard has a new enrichment item (Jelly cake) and new hats in Hat's Fantastic.

Oh, jelly cake, that's fun. I like seeing videos of zoo animals eating those.

I figure maybe they'll try to get some more popular requests in before closing development on PZ. The game has been such a big moneymaker for them, and will likely continue to make decent sales for a while.

But what about the Potential of Planet Zoo 2? Since we are getting Planet Coaster 2 in 2 days on Friday perhaps we might get another Sequel in line with better management, systems, and new animals probably the long-requested flying birds and maybe fully aquatic animals?

I think that would have to wait until PlanetCoaster 2 finishes its update cycle, likely 2026, since they'd have to split their development team otherwise. They also probably wouldn't announce it until it's closer to being done just to keep the hype fresh.

Good news is, they'll probably port any useful mechanics from PC2 to Planet Zoo 2

I think this is certainly not the last pack, because they said they weren't done yet with the PC version.
i will gladly accept, but there's something bothering me, why did they took so long to make those animals?they are relatively easy to do, we could have gotten this in June or July, and then a new pack this month or in October, and then we would get a new pack in December. But that's really strange we only got 2 packs this year. i'm still shocked that the planet zoo's team development shrunked in order to focus more on planet coaster.

PZ has had more than enough development time, and it only got that much due to outside circumstances (with Frontier’s projects afterwards failing left right & centre, necessitating the routine profits of DLC from it and JWE2). Now, though, with their strategy changing back to a focus on what’ll be more-or-less indirect successors to both games (PZ -> PC2, JWE2 -> ‘JWE3’), reallocating development time to those is the best decision moving forward.

PZ’s upcoming DLC (the thing they were hinting at when saying they weren’t done with the PC version) is likely to only have taken this long ‘cause their priorities have finally been focused elsewhere, and I’d be very surprised if they keep that development going any longer than this last announced send off.

They're sure to make a PZ2, but yeah, we probably won't get an announcement until they're done with PC2, which could be a good long while. And it's just as well, they'll need time to make a PZ2 sequel that gets fans lining up to buy right away.

The graphics on PC2 look incredible. I bet PZ2 is gonna have some insanely realistic animals. And it seems like the pathing system is going to be much better, and the building features will be even more customizable. I'm sure PZ2 will get those.

Frontier isn't a massive game developer, they probably don't have enough people to work on both games AND the licensed games they produce.

As what I mentioned in the previous thread, the Frontier has experienced financial hardship since last year that led to the layoff of staff, so they didn't have enough resources (budget and labor) to work on PZ1, which is why they spent half a year to provide such ridiculous Pallas Cat's model.
Now I think we may have one more pack next year, which is a scenery pack with 4+1 species, plus the African Leopard and 8 species offered by the coming DLC, we will have 13 species on the way, and make the PZ1 roster to end with 200 species.

this totally makes sense.

Strongly suspecting a Highland Animal Pack--if so, might not be the final pack. We know it's Frontier's current most reliable game for sales so they might be holding on to it for another couple packs. Candidates for animals that could make it in:
Andean bear
Goodfellow's tree kangaroo (also in the "dictionary leak" with the baboon and markhor)
Himalayan monal (or another Asian pheasant)
Bar-headed goose (longshot, but I hope Frontier uses their waterfowl rig at least a second time)
Lesser rhea
Rock hyrax
A second wild sheep/goat--bighorn, aoudad, chamois, etc.
Domestic yak (or nearly absent in captivity wild yak, which would be a very Frontier move)

The exhibit animal might be sacrificed for new pieces again--the flags are already in the game but the lanterns and tent seem new. If there is an exhibit animal, strong candidates include one of the giant salamanders, a veiled chameleon, Lake Titicaca frog, or Mangshan pit viper.

The African leopard is definitely getting mixed reception--YouTubers and the Frontier forums are pretty cool on it, both because we already have the Amur leopard (which is almost the only one found in captivity) and because the Big Five mention is also not sitting well with a lot of people, but the general public seems very happy with it on social media. It does look a lot better than any of the other big cats in the game.

well, it clearly is not the last in my opinion, if it was the last, it certainly wouldn't focus on mountain dwellers.

I suspect there'll be one more DLC if this one is indeed mountain-themed -- the final JWE2 DLC had no unifying theme and was essentially a top requested animals pack (with one being a close relative instead) under the name "Park Managers Pack" which is basically what they call fans.... so I'd suspect PZ's final dlc may similarly be some kind of "Zookeepers' Collection" or something on that order.

I totally agree that this should not be the last DLC and truthfully I would like DLC to continue well into 2025 but I guess that will not happen now.

I think the PZ team are making us believe that the next dlc will be mountain focused, but in reality it's a zookeeper's pack. I'm basing this idea on the fact that:
  • The word "secretary" that appeared on the planco dicctionary hinted at the secretary bird which hasn't any relation with mountains.
  • They are taking a long time to make the pack, and the animals that have been shown are "copies" of other animals, so maybe they are taking more dedication with this pack, which would make sense if this is the last pack, and I doubt that they would do a mountain pack as their last pack. (I know that the team working on PZ has shrunken, but even then they are taking a long time).
I can be wrong and maybe it's a "mountain pack" but I have my suspicions.

The consensus that it isn't the last pack because it looks to have a "Mountain" theme is rather shoehorned, IMO. Yes, JWE2 did a "Park Managers Collection" as it's last DLC, but that is their only game to have done so, and may have only resorted to such a theme because the most requested species weren't able to be given a general overarching one (like with PZ's 'Conservation Pack', for example). In comparison, Planet Coaster's last DLC was the Ghostbusters story-focused IP DLC, with their last non-IP DLC being a standard "Classic Rides" pack. JWE1's last DLC was an OG Jurassic Park story-focused IP DLC (adding content they supposedly had originally planned to be in the base game, but was pushed to DLC due to rushed development), with their last non-IP DLC being a standard "Herbivore Dinosaur Pack". It could well and truly be the case that a DLC with an overarching theme is Planet Zoo's last DLC, what matters is the features included in the DLC/update, and their communication during & after their respective releases. And though it doesn't mean as much as later communication, based solely on what they've released so far, I would hesitate to be sure of a DLC succeeding this one no matter the theme/name it ends up getting.

@Xavier GM I too, agree with your hypothesis that this next dlc will likely be something along the lines of a “Zookeeper’s Animal Pack”. For as much as I want to be convinced that it won’t be the last dlc, I think you made a great point as to where Frontier will go with the fate of the game.

I know that JW2 is the only one that has done the "park managers pack" idea, but both games have been hand to hand, and I wouldn't be surprise if they did the same with planet zoo.

Also, if my predictions end up coming true, we could very well get an official name and release date announcement sometime this Tuesday (October 2nd); with the pack being released the following Tuesday (October 8th).

Of course, this is nothing more than basic speculation; so please keep this in mind until we gain more official information.
