Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Port Lympne 2013

Very interesting. Obviously he's got Gorillas, but I'm not sure about any of the others- though I did see what looked to be a single Grevy zebra in the safari area on my last visit.

They have recently enlarged that group and brought in females for a breeding group. Same will be for the Rothschild's giraffe only other way round (still waiting for a purebred male).

Either the brood born in June died after my visit on June 20th, only to be replaced by more within a month, or that link was using the term "within the last month" very loosely indeed!

I think you are right, the term is just being used loosely, it probably means less than 2 months. I'm not an expert, but i would guess the kittens i saw on 22 July were a few weeks old at least. They cant have had more since then.

I visited on 1st June and was told by one of the keepers that they had just had kittens, so I'd say the term was used very loosely indeed!

Only two places in Europe have black footed cats? (That is what the article says). What is the other place? I know it is NOT Parc Des Felins, although they must have at one time because it is on their printed maps (but they were already gone by the time of my first visit in 2009).

According to Zootierliste there is 1 at Ebeltoft in Denmark, a strange place for such a cat... Wuppertal doesn't keep the species anymore...

As lintworm states, Ebeltoft is the other one - and has only gone into the species in the last month or two, as a matter of fact.

The Wuppertal animal died earlier this year from the usual kidney problems.

A statement from PL's Facebook indicates that female Gorilla, Kibi has now also left for Gabon. I assume with baby in tow - the statement wasn't very clear but is quoted below:

Some of you may know that Kibi, one of female gorillas from Djala’s group, wasn’t able to travel to Gabon with the rest of her family. She has however returned to her family was accepted into the group with no trouble at all. She and the others are settled down nicely

Reading between the lines, the fact they don't mention the reason she couldn't go (being pregnant) or subsequently the baby either, makes me wonder. Was she perhaps upset at the parting and they have ended up handrearing it? Strange they didn't make a big thing of it if they went together.

Questions.

Two questions for anyone knowing the answers or who may be visiting the Parks soon;

1. Is the 'Palace of the Apes', Djala's old home, still empty or has it been restocked with Gorillas?

2. Has a rhino bull been transferred to Howletts yet, to replace Vungu who went to Rotterdam?

In terms of Kibi, unfortunately her baby (Lelie) passed away at just 6 weeks old, for unknown reasons.

Palace of the Apes remains unoccupied. There still some more maintenance to be completed.

In reference to the Black Rhino's, these are the following changes that have taken place at Howletts and Port Lympne:

Vungu (m) has moved from Howletts to Rotterdam.
Rufiji (f) has moved from Howletts to Port Lympne.
Zambezi (m) has moved from Port Lympne to Howletts.
Damara (f) has moved from Port Lympne to Howletts.

Port Lympne are still awaiting arrival of Sammy (m) from Chester.
