As the aviary is finished now, maybe you should go again and reconsider...(or actually maybe wait a while until the vegetation grows, it will look even better)

After I have seen it in person, it´s not that bad. Dont like its design much, but I made peace with it. Still not worth that price tag in my eyes.

In other news, twin bush dogs born 2 months ago do great. The window is still boarded off, but you can peek at the family through the screen.

And I had surprise when I looked for maneless zebras. I found alpacas in their exhibit instead. ZTL tells me all zebras went to Plzen.

At least Prague, unlike Pilsen, has admitted that maneless zebras don't do well there
 
I‘ve a short question - I‘m going to visit Prague Zoo on friday for the first time and was wondering where the Pangolins are kept as I couldn‘t locate them on the map (maybe I was also just blind)…

The Pangos are in the Indonesian Jungle exhibit (the area with orangutan and Komodo dragon on the map)
 
Two Impressed tortoises (Manouria impressa) hatched at the 4th of June. This is the first breeding at any European zoo - however this species was already bred in private in Europe before.

The zoo keeps a group of 1,4 adult animals at Giant salamander house. The male arrived only in December 2022 from Taipei zoo. He was seized by Taiwan authorities - he was illegaly kept animal. Obtaining export approval took +2 years.

This tortoise species has similar egg care like some crocodiles. The female builds a muld and protects it during incubation.

I’m sorry if this is a question that has been previously asked but does anyone know what will happen to the old polar bear enclosure? Will it accommodate another species or be completely demolished?

Initial plan was a demolishion and brand new enclosure for great pandas. This obviously wont happen. The next plan was a total reconstruction for a small tropical bear species, either sloth or Malayan. Not sure if that plan still stands.
 
In some discussion I read some speculation about enlargement of orangutan paddock, but it may be hoax, last official plan was, as Jana said, exhibit for asian bears.
I doubt anything happened here before will be finished new polar bear exhibit.
Purely speculative question in the end - do you think current exhibit could be, at least temporarily, sufficient for some other (smaller) species, with no, or just little modifications?

What I have seen mentioned is that current orangutan exhibit doesnt fullfill minimal requirements (either by EEP or local animal rights laws) and needs to be enlarged including building second outside paddock/cage. I dont know in which direction, but I doubt this can wait till polar bears move out from current place.
 
On Saturday, the new aviary at Sečuán pavilion gets unveiled with a small ceremony. I dont plan a visit anytime soon. If anybody happens to go, please write down species on show.
 
Isn't the aviary meant to grant outdoor access for the species already kept in the Pavilion? That's the impression I got when I visited in april, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

That was my idea till yesterday too. But I was wrong obviously. btw here is a list of 8 species either mentioned by the zoo or whose pics surfaced so far:

Malaysian Great Argus
Atlantic harlequin duck (1,2)
scaly-sided merganser (1,1)
spotted laughingthrush (my favourite species, yay!)
rufous-cheeked laughingthrush
crested myna
black-breasted thrush
white-shouldered starling

None of these species is new for the zoo, but some of them spent some time backstage.
