Prague Zoo Praha Prague Zoo News 2025

Have the wallaroos moved recently? On the Easter weekend they were still up next to the Maned Wolves and Addax on the hilltop - there were Tasmanian Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Red-necked Wallabies in the Darwin Crater enclosure.
No, my bad. I mixed Eastern Wallaroos and Eastern Grey Kangaroos.

Easily done - I did wonder if that might have happened but didn't want to assume. :D

Not related to the zoo. But still might be of interest for local nature lovers.

University Botanical garden (street Na Slupi) has an Invertebrate exhibition starting this Friday. (open on 6.6.-15.6.2025, on weekdays 12:30 - 18:00, on weekend 8:30 - 18:00). Over 300 living species of invertebratea on show - mostly local Czech species but also from Central Europe and Balkan. Everything is labeled (also in Latin), plus dead specimen and photos of many other species.

While browsing into the UCSZOO website, I noticed that I couldn't find Prague Zoo and Hodonín zoo, has something happened between the Czech institutions that made them resign from the association?

Don't know about Hodonín, they should still be part of UCSZOO.
As for Prague, they left the association something like three years ago, together with Zlín and Dvůr Králové. I don't know the exact reason though.

I wonder why, these 3 powerhouses of the association are important for their number and size of projects, and not having the capital zoo, which usually should give a big input, in your regional association doesn't sound good.

By all means I'm not saying that the zoos left in there are worth less without these 3, but the former members had their strengths and I was always under the impression that Czech establishments really liked to foster local knowledge and work locally in general, I wonder what made them leave, hopefully nothing bad...

Also yeah my bad for Hodonín, I was sure someone else left but for some reason Dvůr Králové didn't come to mind.

The Wisent calf is a girl.

A week ago, a European bison calf was born at Prague Zoo – it’s a female, and after a rough start, she’s now doing well. The little one became known for her dramatic arrival into the world.
