Queens Zoo Queens Zoo News

I just went this afternoon. I don't know when this happened or why, but they moved the sandhill crane(s) to the aviary. I put the s in parentheses because I only saw one, so either the second one was simply not visibile for a good reason or it died. I have attached four photos I took of the crane.IMG_20211121_144905993.jpg IMG_20211121_144824346.jpg IMG_20211121_144836127.jpg IMG_20211121_150017227.jpg

Saw Pacha and Nuna today with their mother (Nicole I think), they've grown quite big already. The pronghorn are also currently bts for the time being.

Rather stretching the concept of useful news, no?

I wouldn't say it's a useless piece of news because 1. It isn't enrichment in the sense of something that can be easily destructible. 2. I report on exhibit renovations and improvements all the time, which this seems to fit.

It's not exactly the most helpful though, changing a piece of exhibit furniture is a regular occurrence and in most cases not worth reporting unless decidedly significant. No difference in this case between a new perch being added or replacing a plant.

Well that is true and I agree with you with that, it's just the fact that a large hollowed-out tree stump was, correct me if I am wrong, never apart of the exhibit to begin with. If you think this is me just stretching out the news, I won't argue with you there.

Then we can agree to disagree and let the staff handle it.

I have never visited Queens Zoo and did not know they exhibit pudu. If you had not reported that bit of news I might never have known they were there. So thank you! If any zoo releases information to the media about a change, no matter how “small”, it is worthy of inclusion in its thread here and I find it to be anything but boring.

Pudu is one of their highlight species and one they feature pretty often on their social media. The previous page has a news article about a fawn being born, and there's photos in the gallery.

Pudu is one of the featured species on Queens website and has appeared four times on their social media since the start of the year. Besides being mentioned on this thread and photos in the gallery. There's no need to be posting about a log.

One thing that I think hasn't been reported: they've had one pudu (I believe 1.0) for a while, but now they have two (two were visible in the photo in Smaggledagle's article).

Also, I visited the zoo on 4/15 and their trumpeter swans are in the old sandhill crane exhibit next to the alligator exhibit.
