I've a number of queries and comments on Chester following a visit. Sorry :( I posted them in the main UK section by mistake- please look there- same title....

i have looked at the photo in the gallery of the planned new bridge at Chester it cuts throught the island for anoa and features the new cheetah paddock, would it not be ideal to remove the anoa from the island as it seems a bit of a mixed message from the rainforest of Indonesia to the savannah of Africa to the plains of Asia, to lessen the effect could the anoa not be removed and replaced by a small African ungulate, like the warthog or a small antelope species and African crane?

It's very strange. The cheetahs will be in between an Asian forest animal and an Asian desert enclosure. I can't see how the zoning will work. I've e-mailed Chester to ask about the Super Zoo plans, I hope I get a useful reply.

Bristol and Edinburgh have made their intentions public, I don't understand the secrecy shown by NEZS. For instance Zoogiraffe has been asked not to tell us which animals are due to arrive, it sounds as though he possesses state secrets.

Not realy state secrets just info on animal species that the zoo want to keep quite until they`ve got them safe and alive within the zoo,as soon as the rest of the zoo world knows what they have they will want to have them as well.As for the superzoo its no great secret any Adult member of the zoo can request to see the plans, via the head of the Education department!Just expect to be told that its all only just a CONCEPT at the moment while you viewing it.

Basically everything is moving around the zoo. The black rhinos are moving to, what will be a new, African Safari exhibit. If I'm allowed by the zoo, I'll post the plans on the gallery.

Remember that If this idea did work, that it is going to be about 2020 completion date.

The plans for the SUPERZOO are purely just a design CONCEPT and most likely alot of what has been seen in the plans will not happen including some of the animals moving to new zones,if you believe the plan the Oakfield House will be on a island which would not be a good idea as the cellar is already prone to flood now so surrounding it by water not a good iea but yet that is what is shown on the SUPERZOO plan.So can every one please rember that this plan is purely just a CONCEPT as i was told this by Gordon McGregor Reid and Tony WWilliams at the last Annual General Meeting.

Cheetahs kind of work alongside onagers depending on subspecies. I expect they would like Asian cheetahs wouldn't they?
Are the Soemmerringii subspecies found in Asia?

There are no asian cheetahs anywhere in captivity and since the species is extremely rare (around 100 or less in the wild), no zoo will be able to get some from the wild. I think the soemmerringii subspecies is from north-eastern Africa.

Ok, I'm with you. I just wasn't sure whether there wasn't more than one Asian subspecies but I've looked on Arkive and understand now. I guess that does make the whole thing quite weird...unless the zoo eventually plans to change the location of the onager and camel.

Let's face facts, masterplans are fine as PR exercises; but when they come into contact with hard facts they aren't worth much (particularly if the facts concern £££ ;)).
Plans that aren't flexible and animal-centred aren't worth anything at all IMHO.

When you cross the existing Flag Lane and Canal Bridges, you pass on the left Asian Elephant, Andean Condors and Black Vultures, Coatis and Congo Buffalo; on the right the Asian Plains and Steppe enclosures. Unless you keep your eyes fixed right the whole time, that's a pretty mixed bag too. There doesn't seem to me to be a problem. I don't expect the Cheetah enclosure to be a major build so it's not a major issue if they have to move them again later on. It'll be a long time (if ever) before the zoo is properly zoned, and even then Chester's plan seems to be prioritising zoning by habitat rather than geography. There will always be some animals 'out of zone', and I suspect the majority of visitors will never even notice.

That is impossible, there are no asian cheetahs anywhere in captivity. There are less then 100 left in the world in Iran and I have no doubts that capturing some for a european zoo is out of question.

It is out of the question but it was still one Chester looked at.

Does any one know where Chester are getting their 6 cheetahs from?

I forgot to ask when i spoke to the keepers.

Hi, I'm just wondering if the 'superzoo' plans have been posted in the gallery, as was suggested as a possibility ealier on in this thread. I've trawled through the pictures and can't see these elusive plans... have I missed them or will the zoo not allow them to be posted?
