Rare species in European zoos

Well, several matings have been observed in Randers, and we may have another little manatee calf svimming around there within three months

By the way, i'm going to see the little manatee next sunday. I will take lots of photos and post them on my website then :D

Frankfurt actually has quite a bunch of kiwis; however, they're not kept at the zoo, but at an outside facility. The young male at the zoo is one funny fellow; even let me pet him "hinter den Kulissen"...;)

I'd like to hear more about that mysterious French Kagu-and Uakari-owner if that's possible.
And about ratels: has anyone mentioned the Prague and Israel specimens yet?

The last of their kind in zoos (or outside their native range):

The Grey-necked Rockfowl female at Frankfurt Zoo.
The Northern White Rhinos at Dvur Kralove
the two Baikal seals at Leipzig Zoo
the Colobus angolensis ruwenzori at Erfurt Zoo
Other rare species:
the Nilghiri langurs at Erfurt Zoo
the Crab-eating Raccoon at Usti
the Steller Sea Lions at Antibes and Harderwijk(not to forget their walrus)
the Northern Viscachas at Halle and Hamerton

Additions to that list are the three ringed seals (Phoca hispida hispida/botnica) at Burgers Zoo in Arnhem.

taking a look at isis can it be true Europe is down to one female bontebok in Lisbon? Also while we are at it what is happening to aye aye breeding in Europe, Jersey and Bristol have done quite well in the past but when was the last aye aye born in Europe and they seem to be doing well at Duke and Tokyo.

Last week Leipzig Zoo received a young male Pangolin from Taipeh Zoo. It's kept in quarantaine behind the scenes atm but an exhibit is allready for it...

Cool! Leipzig, here i come! ;)

I am not so exited because I am far from convinced that the zoo will be able to keep this animal alive and healthy - so far nearly all zoos in the USA or Europe who tried to keep pangolins lost them after relatively soon. I thought the times in which zoos bought rare animals regardless if they could keep them alive were long over....

Bristol zoo are showing on isis a male aye aye born as from the last update.
