Recent arrivals at Edinburgh are 1.1 Stanley crane and 1.0 Patagonian sea lion.

A 3rd nyala calf has been born on the African plain and 0.2 female Azara's agouti have arrived.
as far as i know they just have the 1.0 Patagonian sea lion.

Are there any plans for more species in the African plains? It seems quite a good sized area, and I would've thought at least one more species would be possible.

I believe the intention is to get the warthog up there at some stage.

Right at the bottom of the hill. From the main entrance you just walk up a few steps and look straight ahead.

Recent births at the zoo include a female Japanese serow, great news there considering the herd was devastated by disease from 2.4 to 1.1 in the space of a month, so this is brilliant news.
0.0.1 Chinese grey goral
0.0.1 Malayan mouse deer again a very important birth a first for RZSS and important to the EEP as the female was imported from Singapore.
hammerkop and violaceous touraco have hatched chicks too
Malayan tapir female due around October.

Good news all round, but I'm very pleased about the chevrotain, because I got some nice photos of her this summer (which I must now process and post asap).

more drills for Edinburgh.

I've just seen on one of the USA threads that 0.2 Drills will be coming to Edinburgh from Columbus Zoo, Ohio.

Great news, would be nice to see a few more in the UK.

It will give Edinburgh a better sex ratio(2.3) There's discussion on the American thread about whether Drills have any future in US zoos- there are less there than in Europe and very few are breeding. I think Columbus' male ws handraised and is consequently a nonbreeder so this transfer will be to Edinburgh's advantage.

Good, good. I find Mandrills and Drills so fantstic to watch. I have only seen drills on Tv, so am happy even if it is existing zoo getting more as hopefully one day I will get round to visiting one of this places.

Mandrills & drills are great. Like so many species of primate, the bigger the group, the more interesting they are.

Fact for the day- Did you know that Port Lympne recorded the first UK birth of a Drill for almost 40 years? There had been none at all in UK since the last one died at Drusillas Zoo in Sussex some time in the 1970's.:(

Wow, thanks for that.

I remember watching a documentry on a couple who set up a sanctuary for drills.

So fansinating, it was only a few years ago that I found out about Drills

2 new Bongos have arrived at the zoo, there has also been a Tapir birth.
