The zoo has announced that they will be demolishing the "main pond" inside the front entrance in order to construct a new botanical garden. While botanical gardens are something I'm usually pretty neutral on, I am disappointed by the fact this likely means the phase out of Chilean flamingos and most of the zoo's unusual waterfowl. Interestingly, the article mentions HPAI and wasting water as reasons for this change.

Mmmm, I do not know what to make, say or think right now to qualify this one!

Whereas I do not approve of the individual's behaviour on this cloned breed and resell offspring in the sheet industry ..., but certainly the rationale the local conservation authority puts on zoonotic disease in relation to a single animal is quite the other ...!!!

Please note: I am well aware of the undesirable consequences from any accidental introduction of non native wildlife in situ into the wilds nor advocate those initiatives, ... yet they to my mind do preclude alot of positive ex situ conservation action... So, Mmmm .... once more.
