Sacramento Zoo Sacramento Zoo News

Leaf litter is usually put into an oven to kill off any bacteria and unwanted invertebrates before being place in enclosures, so they could've just slipped in through cracks in the enclosure.

True, although most of the tortoises and some lizards also had food dishes in their exhibits, but no cockroaches on any of the others so who knows.

They're focusing on Masai then. Any idea if the zoo will retain a Reticulated or two as well? (Besides their current geriatric female)
I guessing here right not, but putting 1+2=4 I reckon they will move up to Masai giraffe. Reticulated/Nubian US SSP is hopelessly damned (and hybrid inbred)!

The kinkajou profile was removed from the zoo's website. Although the zoo usually takes a while to add new species to the website, they're usually pretty good about removing them once something happens (i.e. they pass or are sent to another facility).

Must have passed. She was pretty old. The only animal at Sac Zoo within the last 10 years I never saw.

(African Pygmy Falcon doesn't count because they never appeared to be out anywhere nor stay very long! :p)
