Safaripark Beekse Bergen Safaripark Beekse Bergen

The new elephant valley is as good as finished. The Secretarybirds, Hyenas and Cheetahs have already moved into their new enclosures. The Secretarybirds have already been joined by Beekse Bergen's Rüppels vultures.

A screenshot of the new aviary, showing the colossal size:

If the weather allows it, I'll try to visit BB to take some photos for myself, as well as asking staff about further bird plans.

Glad to see there's finally a local for BB! I can get there from my dad's, but it's a bike ride and a half so I can't exactly get there to give updates on a regular basis. I'll be visiting tomorrow to take a look at the beautiful new region

Spent some time reading back this thread a bit, and I don't think this has been posted yet. Recently the local tv station did a little behind the scenes series at the Beekse Bergen. You can watch it for free over here (in Dutch). Op Safari

I visited yesterday and I saw 3 of the lion cubs. They weren't outside, but were in a separated cage at the back of the enclosure with their mother. If you have a good binocular you can spot them most easily from the driving safari.
The African wild dogs were mating, the male seemed to be leucistic if anyone has more info on it. 2 keepers were observing the copulation. So possible pups in the future.

I am not sure if it is a leucistic animal, but there is one that is mostly blonde. I think you mean the right-hand animal in the picture below?

Exactly he doesn't seem to have much Melanin. He was the one copulating with a female I don't know the group well but assume they're the breeding pair. I'm not certain he is melanistic but seems very blond.

I don't think he's melanistic- just very sandy-coloured and with hardly any black. His face and muzzle are dark and his nose colour (black) is normal too. A leucistic one would have different/paler nose/skin colour I think. I've seen a very light one like that before.

Are you sure it really was mating because I think the blond one is the breeding female?
I'm not sure in the sense that I don't know the individuals of the group but there was plenty of mounting and so on. So am I sure, I'm sure I saw mating and copulating but if the individual is female that raises other questions.

Interesting I've also seen lighter individuals however these also had some paintings on the side I've never seen one without marks. But I'm no expert on African wild dogs.

It/he has one white patch above the visible front leg elbow and possibly some more around the chest that aren't clear. I'm sure the nose flesh colour would be different (lighter) if it was leucistic though.

Just noticed that the Beekse Bergen can now be viewed through Google Streetview. The images were taken last june, so some of the Elephant Valley (most notably the aviary and the elephant bull enclosure) is still under construction, but you can take a look around the zoo now! :)
Gonna be a huge help in my Planet Zoo recreation of the park so I'm super happy lol
