Does anyone know if there are timelines for the next series of projects at Saint Louis Zoo? In 2010 the Living Promises Campaign was kickstarted and already the $18 million Sea Lion Sound exhibit opened with about a dozen California Sea Lions, an underwater tunnel and a new arena in the center of the zoo. Up next are 5 more projects and 4 of them are brand-new bear habitats.
Sun Bear Forest, Andean Bear Range, Painted Dog Preserve, Polar Bear Point and Grizzly Ridge are the names of the new exhibits, and the River's Edge zone will be home to some of the new enclosures. I just received a passionate email from a fellow ZooChatter friend, and that individual actually provided a great argument that Saint Louis will be the best zoo in the nation within 5-10 years. I'm sure that San Diego, Bronx, Omaha and Columbus would have something to say about that, but I'm a huge fan of Saint Louis and after the bears all receive new habitats I'm not sure what will be left at the zoo that is substandard. Perhaps the 1920's-era Primate House?
