San Diego Zoo San Diego Zoo News 2021

Lets point out one was an adult and the other a toddler. Lets not blame the toddler for their guardians horrid behavior. I can't believe someone would put a child in that danger.

Unfortunately poor guardian behavior also caused us the Harambe incident for one. A lot of people don't watch their kids well, if at all...
Though taking a toddler into an elephant exhibit is a new level of stupid parenting/guardianship. At least it wasn't the lions or tigers.

I am not sure that entering an elephant zoo habitat is any different in being less of endangering oneself in essentially private space?!!!

I wish people were held accountable for their actions, usually even in zoological facilities it is the animals lose out to human irresponsible behaviours.

I was there yesterday! I left around 4:30 but was close to Reptile Walk. No wonder I did see a couple staff members suddenly run towards deeper into the zoo around that time  People are insanely stupid and not only did they trespass into a dangerous situation, they risked the life of the child and fortunately the elephants didn’t have to pay a heavy toll for stupid people.

This is one of those times where you have to ask, what would Ron Burgundy say? But in all seriousness this guy sucks and I wonder what the zoo will do now and in the future to stop this from happening again.
It’s bound to happen as long as stupid people exist, unfortunately :/ What needs to be done is very serious charges or lawsuits to the party involved in such cases. There are clear signs and barriers as to not mess with any animals yet some people like this dad think it’s chill to get a photo op so close. Plus what helps is that the SD Zoo has cameras everywhere from what I’ve seen so it can’t be like that person/people involved doing stupid things can’t get away with it. Visiting zoos, theme parks, ball parks, stadiums comes with a reminder that you are entering into a facility where you can incur injury and the facility isn’t at fault if it was caused by their own hand. However, they can be held liable if negligence was a factor on the facility’s behalf. But I’m just glad at the end of the day neither the elephants or the child were hurt. As for Ron, he would definitely be upset yet understand the fascination with being up close to the elephants

To reiterate...

If that elephant wanted to actually get that man, she would have. That was a gentle warning at worst. Not especially how the man dropped the child as he exited the enclosure, directly in front of the elephant's trunk.

All I can say is, poor Shaba. In terms of that man, what an absolute ****ing idiot and a coward to boot.

A few changes I noticed during my recent visit and for those are interested in visiting soon:

Common wombat replaced Wyolie, whom appeared to never be present, in the exhibit next to Tasmanian Devils. Signage is up and can confirm Wombat is present.

Angolan Colubus placed in first exhibit of Sun Bear Forest, near entrance facing Africa Rocks.

Satka and her Cubs moved to Asian Leopards exhibit, Satka’s daughter has access to both yards in Africa Rocks as of this Friday. Unsure if they are frequently moved, saw Satka with her boys one side of Africa Rocks leopard exhibit while daughter had the other side on Wednesday. Another Amur Leopard was in Snow Leopard exhibit in the old Bear Grottos area.

Stone Partridges unsigned in Africa Rocks Woodland Aviary, saw a pair closer to exit of aviary.

Hamadryas Baboon troop have access to both yards after repairs to the second yard. Viewing window that was broken appears to have been boarded up.

Serval has taken back their exhibit where Mystique the melanistic Amur Leopard resided at until her departure, in the Kopje area.

Chacoan Peccary group appears smaller than usual, most likely due to some being exhibited in Nairobi Village at the Safari Park.

Dense vegetation had been cleared from isolated aviary section in Parker Aviary which holds the capuchinbird and others.

They weren't signed then either. :p

Quick search on the site they're referenced back to summer 2017 at least, and photos from 2018 forward.

Oh nice, very helpful to have unsigned animals on exhibit  I was a bit surprised when I had seen them and thought to myself “This isn’t the smaller indoor aviary next to the bonobos o_O“ haha
