San Diego Zoo San Diego Zoo News 2021

Batari was born at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo in January 2014 but moved to San Diego from the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound in Rosamond, California where she had been living since October 2015. She's a littermate to Cinta and Berani and Connor's younger sister.

isnt she also littermates with Arya at Zoo Knoxville?

Ramil, the male snow leopard, has tested positive for COVID-19:

"A male snow leopard at the San Diego Zoo is suspected to be positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19."

"The male snow leopard appears to be doing well, and is showing no additional symptoms other than the cough and runny nose. He shares his habitat with a female snow leopard and two Amur leopards. San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance veterinarians assume these three individuals have also been exposed. They are currently being quarantined in their habitat. Veterinarians are monitoring them closely, and will treat symptoms as they may arise. Because these Amur leopards and snow leopards are being quarantined, their habitat will be closed to Zoo visitors until further notice."

For those unfamiliar with the habitat and its current residents, the other leopards in the Asian leopard area are Naphisa the snow leopard (Ramil's girlfriend) and Amur leopards Satka and her 15 month old son Tuman. Ramil's nephew Meru was one of the snow leopards at the Louisville Zoo who had COVID-19 last year.

What about Tuman’s brother, Lev?

The snow leopard in one of the bear grotto was moved a while back right? Someone earlier said one of the tigers was in there but the app says there’s an Amur leopard and the map still has snow leopard.

Yes, Ramil and Penny were there. When Penny was moved back to the zoo where she was born, he was moved to Asian leopards to meet his new girlfriend, Naphisa. Charlie the Amur leopard then resided there but he was moved awhile ago to the leopard exhibit in Africa Rocks where he could be next to Maryanne (Tuman's older sister), who I think is intended to be his girlfriend. Batari the Malayan tiger is currently residing in that exhibit now.

Two Canadian Lynx have taken up residency in former Arctic Fox exhibit next to Polar Bear exhibit. Asked if they’re temporarily being displayed until finished construction of Children’s Zoo, was told by keeper they’re unsure at the moment.

Arctic fox left the collection?

I don’t remember that exhibit being very big. Is it big enough for two lynx?

The father who took his toddler into the elephant enclosure earlier this year for a self had the gall to plead not guilty of child endangerment and unlawfully entering a zoo enclosure. I mean come on buddy you are on video doing it likely from countless angles. You are guilty just get a plea deal and do your time. Anyone who can be on video taking their toddler into an elephant enclosure where the elephants charge you and you drop your kid who just barely avoids being squished is guilty of both charges. Just as mind blowing as doing it in the first place!

Does anyone know if the zoo still has yellow backed duikers and musk deer, if so where are they located?

As of my last visit in March, they still have Musk Deer in a slightly hidden enclosure near the stairs leading from Lost Forest down to the Hua Mei Cafe area. There is no signage so the exhibit is easy to miss.
As for the Duiker, there might be some in Northern Frontier (in the older hoofstock yards) although they may have been replaced by Bontebok or Gerenuks.
