China's President Xi said the following yesterday ...

“I…learned that the San Diego Zoo and the Californians very much look forward to welcoming pandas back,” Xi told American business leaders during a speech in San Francisco on Wednesday.

“We are ready to continue our cooperation with the United States on panda conservation, and do our best to meet the wishes of the Californians so as to deepen the friendly ties between our two peoples.”

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see the pandas return to SDZ!!! They were always a major highlight of all my visits to SDZ ... the keepers must be so thrilled to hear this news! Fingers crossed this comes through!

Seems to be the case, the zoo's social media has commented on a post about it seeming to hint that the pandas may return sooner than we all think.

That's porteri for those who are curious
It will take a genius to know where they came in from!

San Diego Zoo maintains 2.1 adult C. porteri. They also have a few other species around: C. becki, C. darwini, microphyes (or guntheri?) and C. vandenburghi.

Be interested to know if they are still trying to breed their adults. Anyone have additional information or can find out more?

From what I have heard, they are still waiting on a very specific and expensive part for the filtration system for the hippo pool that is holding up the completion of the project.
Hopefully it will be down early next year I definitely want to see hippos and okapis on exhibit in the habitats that were made for when I visit San Diego early next year.
