San Diego Zoo Safari Park San Diego Zoo Safari Park 2020

I haven’t heard or seen notice at the Safari Park from my last visit but will be going next week after a long hiatus, maybe I could ask some staff :)

I’d be curious to know. I bet the project may have gotten delayed due to the pandemic possibly is what most likely happened

Exciting news for elephant fans! The park is going to share details of the “reimagining” of Elephant Valley during three invitation-only sessions on October 22, 25, and November 18.

From the email:
As a close friend of San Diego Zoo Global, I know how much you love
and care for wildlife. We are so grateful for you and for all you make
possible for wildlife each and every day. As you know, the San Diego
Zoo Safari Park is home to our family of African elephants and the
epicenter of our efforts to save these gentle giants. To further or
commitment to elephant conservation worldwide, we're reimagining
Elephant Valley.

This new home for our growing herd will offer intimate
opportunities for you to connect with our elephant family, inspire
countless generations to protect their species, and empower a global
conservation movement to save elephants around the world.

Your journey through Elephant Valley will take you into the heart of
the Kenyan savanna where you'll become surrounded by our herd of
elephants and immersed into our conservation efforts to protect their
future like never before.

We can't wait to share the details of this incredible new project with
you at one of our upcoming virtual events. You will be the first to
hear about our intricate
plans as I take you through the Elephant
Valley experience, share project plans and renderings, and answer all
your questions!”

Is this exclusive to members or higher ups to see the sessions? I love Elephant Valley despite its occasional awkward viewing areas but I love that herd dynamics :p

Reimagining? What do you speculate the reimagining would entail? (For me it would be either mixing antelope in with the elephants or building a massive trail leading to one of the African Plains enclosures and sectioning a yard off for the elephants, maybe giraffes and other animals can access through "creeps").

I imagine a replacement of the night quarters is due. More realistic simulated mudbank and rockwork features and containment borders and waterholes are likely in the exhibit yards. And extending the public viewing area further into the space where the former monorail used to bisect the exhibits would enhance the experience of being surrounded by the elephants.

we're reimagining
Elephant Valley.
YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS finally this will get better viewing opportunities of the Elephants and make the flow of the park so much better. This revamp is (most likely) going to add a new path leading to tiger trail with is great and it will mean the safari parks renovations will be complete (maybe).
Although this means we won't get the rumored Asain safari tour for a few more years unless it's already done and they have withheld the information. Either way I'm super excited

I think that they will likely remove the former elephant show arena and transform that area into elephant viewing space. They also will likely make the way-finding to the elephant exhibit better, as it is one of the park's major attractions, but relatively difficult to navigate to.

Yes those are two good points to be addressed too!

Here's the post:

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

In the comments the park said:

"These are our striped hyenas. They are occasionally visible at Lion Camp in the morning"

The November issue of Zoonooz has an article about the striped hyenas, they are two 15-year-old brothers that have retired from the Animal Ambassador program and are residing in a new habitat adjacent to Lion Camp. They have been introduced to the lion exhibit when the lions are not in it, and it is possible that if they become more comfortable exploring it that they will have night access to the exhibit.
