Sadly the male Yellow-backed duiker (Cephalophus silvicultor) passed away last Wednesday died under anesthesia. He arrived from Gladys Porter Zoo last year and was the only Yellow-backed duiker in Zoo Schwerin. There are now only 3 zoos in Europe that keep this species.

On the 9th of June 2 Nepalese red pandas (Ailurus fulgens) were born, is this a zoo first breeding for Schwerin? One of the cubs was significantly smaller than its sibling from the start, sadly this young was found dead earlier this week.

Since monday the rhino girl is on display.
And also the lion kittens can be watched at the "Rote Liste Zentrum".
In additon there is a Goeldi's marmoset kit at the "Humboldt Haus".

The rhino girl is named Kiah.

They have recently been sexed, a male and a female.

Sadly the other young passed away on the 4th of September.
The pathological examination revealed hemorrhagic enteritis (bloody inflammation of the intestine), erosive-ulcerative gastritis (inflammation of the stomach) and low-grade pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs). The cause is suspected to be clostridiosis.

On the 14th of November, for the second time this year female Asiatic lion (Panthera leo persica) Indi gave birth. This time she gave birth to two young, her first litter in May didn't not survive the first night.
