SeaQuest Aquariums

All very common species really.
I was just noting that these are species missing from some of the large zoos and aquariums in the area, such as the Adventure Aquarium and the National Aquarium in Baltimore. I seem to remember Adventure Aquarium used to have Brown Smoothhound Sharks, but I did not see them the last two times I was there. SeaQuest Aquarium also had what appeared to me to be a a Banded Houndshark (Triakis scyllium), but there was no signage for it and I am no expert. However, if that is the case, it is the only one I know of displayed on the East Coast. Same with the Grey Smoothhound Sharks, which I thought tended to be more commonly displayed in West Coast aquariums.

SeaQuest has declared bankruptcy. Some news articles:

SeaQuest zoo/aquarium files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Idaho | abc10.com

SeaQuest files for bankruptcy following accusations of animal abuse, neglect

The article reveals a revenue loss of $12 million in the last two years and how they would leave a trail of debt behind each closed location. They also owe dozens of employees unpaid wages. Hope the rest of the locations close down and aren't rebranded like the one in Lynchburg. Good riddance.

Thank goodness. This company deserves to be completely dissolved. Hopefully the animals are sent to good homes in actual accredited facilities where they can be nursed back to health if necessary. By all accounts SeaQuest is one of the worst zoo/aquarium companies ever for animal abuse. While we’re at it, hopefully those in charge that have perpetrated such crimes end up in prison (some of them already have).
